Miracle League Trick or Treat is just 9 days away! Let's all hope for some decent weather on Sat. Oct. 28th so that we can hold it outdoors on our Miracle League field. Be assured though that the event will go on RAIN OR SHINE. Plan B is to move indoors to Sedgewick Middle School in West Hartford. Let's all think positive thoughts that we will be able to go ahead outdoors.

Dear Avon SEPTA members,

We are writing this note with a heavy heart and as a final effort in hopes to find people in the community who could help take on the Avon SEPTA organization and board member roles.

As many of you know, trying to find “extra” time at the end of the day or on weekends can be challenging for families with children with special needs. The current board (many of whom have been on the board for 5+ years) is unable to sustain the work needed to keep this organization going. As we move to more digital communications and as a result of Covid, we’ve also seen declining membership numbers, rising costs of membership dues, and low event participation. Our hope is to find new board members who can breathe new life and energy into Avon SEPTA. The current board is happy to meet and help transition new members.

Board member roles are a 2-year commitment. Board meetings take place once a month (generally an hour) with the goal of having one event a quarter. Time commitment varies by role and time of the year, but can be modified and delegated depending on personal or board needs.

If there is not enough interest, Avon SEPTA will be dissolved. Per our PTA by-laws, all remaining funds will be donated to 501(c)(3) organizations whose purposes are in accordance with those of the National PTA.

If you are interested in joining the board, please email [email protected] by August 27.

Thank you!
