was founded by Jolly Lux and her husband Kurt Lux on the idea of helping those in need. Ever since our organization was established, we have endeavored to provide support for HIV/AIDS Orphans and Vulnerable Children and their caregivers in rural Uganda. Our team is made up entirely of volunteers. We advocate for those who need our help. That is why we are especially happy to find new volunteers who share our commitment to doing good in the world.

Hola friends, I am thrilled to invite you to an extraordinary event that combines the joy of cooking with the power of giving back. my friends Bonnie and Julie are hosting a Pampered Chef house party fundraiser with a meaningful purpose: to bring clean, fresh water to thousands of children and families in Uganda who currently lack access to this basic necessity.

When women are empowered through vocational training, the benefits extend to the entire community. Women often play key roles in community development, and their enhanced skills positively impact local economies and social structures.

GLO provides local women with the sewing materials to create their own menstrual kits, to help ensure that women and girls stay in school year round!

Guiding Light Orphans (GLO) was founded to provide essential support and care to orphaned children affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in rural Masindi, Uganda.

Recognizing the need for both immediate assistance and long-term support, GLO focuses on improving the lives of orphaned children and their caretakers. We collaborate with local and global organizations to empower the people of Masindi.

CHWs fill the gap in medical personnel and services remarkably well, and in many places provide the first line of healthcare. They provide a spectrum of health-related counseling, as well as preventive and curative health services outside of formal health facilities, bringing services closer to families who previously had limited contact with trained health workers all year round. Such services include: diagnosis, treatment and referrals for diseases such as pneumonia, malaria and diarrhea; sanitation and hygiene; nutritional counseling; maternity services and family planning; follow up on clinic visits; and other services.

Through our VHTs program, to date, we have trained 32 community health workers to deliver basic health care and services to 26 villages. In addition to basic medical and record keeping supplies, we equip them with bicycles for travel and solar powered lanterns, rubber boots to enable them to walk easily especially during rainy season, Uniforms so theycan be recognized by the communities in which they serve.

During their normal course of duties, VHTs are also highly instrumental in the success of our medical camps – promoting awareness and providing translations as well as medical services.

We target specific disease intervention during the VHT initial training, follow-up training, and home visits, in clinical areas that have been shown to make a clear difference in health. One camp, for example, focuses on training our VHTs on basic health messaging and patient interaction with a concentration on reproductive health, family planning, and preparation for specialty disease training.

We seek to make a measurable impact on life expectancy, and infant and child mortality in the district. We have started our VHT program in Budongo subcounty, Masindi district, Uganda.

Joseph wakes up every morning and walks two hours to get water for his family before he goes to school Joseph is a 10-year-old boy who lives in a rural village of Nyantonzi in Masindi District. Water is scarce in his community, and the only spring has been contaminated by animal and human waste from nearby farms. The water is dirty, and Joseph's family gets sick often.

Access to safe, clean water is a fundamental human right often overlooked in developed nations. We are fortunate to reside in advanced countries that prioritize the provision of fresh water to every citizen.

Reality is that, in Uganda, 33 children lose their lives daily due to the consumption or contact with contaminated water. The absence of safe water is an ongoing crisis affecting the people of Uganda. Help GLO make a difference!

Working in partnership with District Health Educators and local hospitals, we recruit, train, equip, supervise, and monitor the work of local individuals who live in rural areas to provide basic education, preventive, diagnostic and referral services year round.

Training local people to meet the needs of their own communities, sustain and enhance the work that is done by helping patients access essential resources. This creates trust, ongoing access, and an environment of community empowerment and transformational change in behavior.

Community health workers often accompany patients on the journey to the nearest clinic. GLO equips their VHT's with items like Bicycles, T-shirts, Solar Lamps, Rubber boots to help them safely travel to their medical appointments and navigate the healthcare system.

Community Health Workers (CHW's) or Village Health Teams (VHTs) are one of the most effective ways to provide education and primary health delivery to poor communities not just in Africa, but around the globe.

Through research-based efficacy, monitoring, and evaluation, VHTs or CHW's have been shown to:

⚫ Improve on their critical life-saving skills through training, equipping and support.

⚫ Enhance the health infrastructure of local communities.

⚫ Improve the capacity of the local health care professionals.

⚫ Increase trained community health leaders and health care providers for mothers and their children.
