Dear Avon Lake Community,
We’re thrilled to share that the Lorain County Board of Elections has completed the recount for Issue 16, and the results are now certified.
Issue 16 has officially passed!
After three election cycles, thousands of conversations and tireless advocacy from people like you, we’ve reached the finish line.
Thanks to your continued support, Avon Lake City Schools will move forward with building a new grades 5–8 middle school and investing $20 million in much-needed repairs to our elementary school buildings. Along with the already-approved Issue 17, which protects staffing and services, this is a huge win for our students, teachers, staff and entire community.
The long-term impact of these two issues passing is profound. Students will learn in safer, healthier and more modern environments. Teachers and staff will have the resources they need to do their jobs effectively and sustainably. And the Avon Lake community will benefit from a stronger, more vibrant public school system that preserves property values, attracts new families and reflects the values we hold dear.
These victories didn’t happen overnight. They were the result of countless volunteer hours, grassroots outreach and a shared belief in the power of public education. Whether you knocked on doors, donated, talked to your neighbors or voted—you helped make this happen.
This campaign has always been about more than buildings—it’s been about believing in what our kids deserve. It’s about honoring our teachers, supporting our staff and protecting the future of Avon Lake.
We’ve fought hard together, and today, we get to celebrate the promise of what’s to come. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for showing up, again and again, with passion, purpose and love for this community.
We did it, Avon Lake!
