We know that ALL employees of the Avon Lake City Schools have taken on new roles and are facing greater challenges this year, with some making sacrifices in ot
her areas of their lives to prioritize our children, their education, and their social and emotional development. Most importantly, we will support you. How will we support you? By providing materials, resources, and services to decrease your workload and stress allowing you to gain a little of your time back. We want you to feel that while you are giving so much to your students and our community, you have a community giving back to you. The following are just some examples of what you can ask for from AL CARES. Materials: Items for the classroom (i.e., disposable masks, lanyards, snacks, sanitizer), donations for individual students (i.e., snowpants, school supplies), supplies for classroom activities/lessons (i.e., pool noodles, prepared science experiment kits, etc), items for your personal use (i.e., gift cards for meals, cleaning supplies for your home). Feel strange asking for items for your personal use? We know that this year, you’re carrying your work responsibilities home with you and we want to support you at home, too. If you feel too wiped out to make dinner at night, we want to provide you with gift cards for ordering in. Resources: If you’re having a problem and you’re just not sure what to do about it, our creative committee can help provide solutions and the means to implement those solutions. For example, if you’re feeling stressed and guilty because you’re working at home and feeling like you’re neglecting your own children who want your attention, we can create kits with activities to occupy your children. Services: Need help preparing materials for lessons? We’ve got you covered. Are you too exhausted to wrap Christmas presents? Leave it to us! If you have a request, you simply need to email [email protected] and our committee will begin to brainstorm and respond to your need.
*We know that it might feel awkward for some people to reach out directly to AL CARES with a request. If this is the case, ALCS employees have the option of making their request through Amanda Kelber, school counselor for Eastview and Westview elementary schools. Amanda can coordinate with the AL CARES committee so that requests can be responded to in a confidential manner.
