Douglas County Dispatch 2024 report.

The Douglas County Dispatch Center is the hardest job in the entire department. It is manned by 4 full-time and 1 part-time dispatcher, with only one dispatcher per shift.

The Douglas County Dispatchers answer all non-emergency calls and 911 calls, tone first responders, and enter and confirm all warrants.
The Douglas County Dispatch Center answered 29,067 incoming calls in addition to 316 County 911 calls, and 179 City 911 calls in 2024. 911 has only been up and operating since September 2024.

The Douglas County Dispatch tones all emergency responders to emergency situations in the county. If an ambulance or First Responder shows up to help you, our Dispatcher got them there.

Dispatching is not a position that I can hire anyone for. A Dispatcher must be able to pass a background check and become licensed by completing a MULES certification and attending 911 training, with annual recertification.

Dispatch entered a total of 844 warrants and registered 60 s*x offenders in 2024.

Once again, we struggled in 2024 with keeping dispatch positions filled due to low salaries. With the recent passage of the use tax this year we are looking forward to 2025 resolving this issue.

Thank You all for your continued support.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office 2024 REPORT.

2024 was an exceptional year at the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. We were able to make arrests in 3 open/cold homicide cases in Douglas County. The first arrest was made in the 2017 Murder of Lance Terrill, then 3 arrests were made in the 1989 murder of Kelle Ann Workman, then an arrest was made in the Murder of Julia (Christine) Hicks.

William Wolfe was convicted of the 2020, murder of Clarence Clark and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. The murder was investigated by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to 6147 calls for service in 2024. The Deputies have done a tremendous job this year as we saw a 54% reduction in Assaults, a 41% reduction in violent crime, a 44% reduction in Burglaries, a 35% reduction in Theft, and a 33% reduction in Weapons violations. Sex-based crimes remained unchanged.

Also, in 2024 I was re-elected for my 5th term as Douglas County Sheriff. I was very humbled by the overwhelming support and confidence the voters of Douglas County showed my staff, our families, and I during this election.

In the November General Election, my staff and I were once again humbled by the support the Citizens of Douglas County showed as I, my staff, and our families campaigned for the Use Tax, which also passed. This tax was put on the ballot by the Douglas County Commission to collect the revenue we are already paying for online sales. Employees from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office met with the Douglas County Commission before the election regarding the low salaries at the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. They were advised salary issues would be contingent on the Use Tax passing.

I would like to commend my staff for their hard work and dedication to the Citizens of Douglas County. For the majority of the year, we were operating 2 deputies short due to a lack of applicants because of the low wages we currently offer. This placed a larger-than-normal caseload on each Deputy.

I am looking forward to what 2025 will bring with much anticipation of the Use Tax alleviating the salary issues we have battled for many years.

I will be providing a Douglas County Jail and Dispatch Update shortly.

Thank You for your continued support and I look forward to serving the Citizens of Douglas County in 2025.
