House of Dreams ~ Mission of LOVE September 2012

As if in confirmation of the synchronicity of life, two years have passed already from the " unique moment of God " when Kathy and her friends that conform Mission of LOVE came to our hospital ( Metropolitan ). They came to Guatemala as on many other occasions with the good news for our children to help transform their lives through cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries. With great enthusiasm and responsibility we accepted to accommodate our pilgrim brothers without knowing the impact this would cause on our lives and the spirituality it would raise that would then be the motor that began to make our dreams come true. One of its objectives is to host terminally ill children, where they and their parents will be served in a peaceful place, surrounded by nature; to accompany them on this journey, full of tears, pain, and wisdom and above all LOVE. A second objective is to use the shelter as a refuge and place of therapy for children victims of violence and abuse. Without the intervention of Mission of LOVE led by Kathy Price this would still be a dream. WE have been blessed this year with three marvelous Mission of LOVE groups of volunteers that have joined forces with WAY-Bi volunteers to make great advance in the construction of the House of Dreams. Volunteers are such a blessing to us; they sacrifice so much in order to be of service for the children in need and help us conclude this extraordinary project. ~ Doctor Edgar Moran / For more information go to our Mission of LOVE web site www.missionoflove.org

" YOU are not here to save the world, but are here to touch the hands that are within your reach." Our Mission of LOVE Foundation (since 1989) is a non-profit 5013C organization consisting of ALL volunteers. We provide humanitarian aid to those in need worldwide and focus on providing basic human rights to the children who have none. We are backed by individuals, groups, local businesses, and the United States' Military's Denton Program. Our Mission of LOVE is the largest user of the Denton Program in the world. We have distributed millions of pounds of aid via planes, trucks and containers throughout five continents of our world, including our Native American friends on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, and survivors of natural disasters in other areas of our country, including victims of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana. Once our aid arrives, the Mission of LOVE volunteers, both young and old, and from all walks of life, are there to utilize the aid by building orphanages, schools, clinics, hospices, and homes, and also administering surgeries, including cleft palate surgeries, and giving medical treatment to the sick and those who have had deformities since birth. LOVE is patient and kind. LOVE is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. LOVE bears ALL things, believes ALL things, endures ALL things.

Mission Trip to Mexico – May 12th to May 17th

From May 12th until nightfall on May 17th, our group traveled to Mexico for another unforgettable mission trip. Although not everyone was able to join us this time, the journey was still filled with purpose, hard work, and celebration. Throughout the week, we distributed candy, hats, watches, medical supplies, and basic necessities to children, teenagers, and workers at local schools and throughout the community.

The main purpose of our mission was to celebrate the grand opening of the new school that had been under construction for the past year and a half. During our stay, we completed the final preparations for the opening. We put up signs, cleaned both the inside and outside of the property, and built the remaining walls, shelving, and other finishing structures needed throughout the school grounds.
The completed school was beautiful—glowing white beneath the Yucatán sun, with ocean-blue floors that brightened the classrooms. The facility included two main classrooms along with a dedicated space for our friends, Saul Martinez and Silvia P**t, who will be leading the programs and classes held there. There are spaces for learning English, sewing, and wood carving, along with a peaceful garden in the back shaded by a large tree overhead.

For Saul and Silvia, this journey represents a major life change. Both are accustomed to the fast pace and energy of larger cities in Mexico, so relocating to the small village of Pisté in Yucatán is a tremendous commitment. Yet their passion for helping the people of the community is greater than any challenge they may face.

None of this would have been possible without Silvia. Several years ago, Silvia reached out to Kathy with a dream—to build a school and support the people of her community. Now, after countless hours of labor, planning, and dedication from many people, that dream has become reality. Seeing the finished school standing proudly in the village was one of the most rewarding moments I have ever experienced.

I am deeply thankful to have been part of this mission—not only as someone who helped gather materials, establish the foundation, and complete the finishing touches, but as someone who witnessed firsthand what people can accomplish when they work together with compassion and purpose. Saul and Silvia are incredible people, and it is truly an honor and privilege to call them my friends.

I am also grateful to everyone who joined us on this mission: Julio and Angelita from Guatemala, Juanito from Yucatán, Claudia from Isla Mujeres, and Andrea, Bob, myself, and Kathleen Price from Ohio. Most importantly, I am thankful for Kathy. Without her, none of us would have known each other, none of us would have had the opportunity to contribute to the Mayan people of Mexico, and none of this would have been possible. Kathy brought together people from different places, cultures, and backgrounds to help make Silvia’s dream a reality.

Before returning home, we invited the people of the village to celebrate the completion and grand opening of the school. The evening was filled with music, dancing, chicken, tacos, and Jamaica, a beloved local drink shared among friends and family. It was a joyful celebration not only of a building, but of the friendships, hard work, and hope that made it possible.

To close out the mission, we traveled to the island of Isla Mujeres, where we enjoyed the sights, music, and meals along the streets and beaches before finally heading home. It was a peaceful and memorable end to a week of hard work, friendship, and service—one that I will never forget.

My People
My youngest, Oli, attended their first Anime convention around age twelve. At its finale, Oli jumped into to our car, bubbling over with excitement and declared “these are my people!”. She had found a community of people who were as passionate about Anime as herself.
In 2000, at age 39, I found “My People”. I met Kathy Price. I was amazed by her drive, her ability to get things done, and the impact she was having by helping people without the basic necessities of life a good life including food, shelter, heath care and education. It was grass roots- just Kathy donating her life to do God’s work and enrolling people to join her. This was something I could get behind and became a volunteer.
MOL volunteers donate vacation time or days off to work at the warehouse, collect, or transport donations. Many are retired; finally have more time and now feel a need to give back. We love seeing families come to give together. Some support the cause with monetary donations. Some go out of their comfort zone and adventure to foreign countries, with their belongings in a backpack so their checked luggage can carry supplies for the people. Each person helps as much or little as they are inspired to do, with no pressure or commitment.
Over the years, I have noticed that when doing voluntary Mission of Love work, we are the best versions of ourselves, working without complaining, giving without expecting anything in return yet receiving more than we give. One of the benefits I receive is getting to hang out with people who joyfully give of themselves.
I have not dedicated my life to MOL work, but for decades I have been fitting it into my already-over-committed schedule. I also invite others to join us; some accept the offer for one day, some hang with us for years, helping when they can. The classic idiom says “Many hands make light work” is SO TRUE We have fun, we share, we show up, get a lot done and make a difference.

Together, we bring hope to the hopeless, homes to the homeless, food to the widows, medical care to the hurting, respect and structure to keep different cultures alive, education to children with the desire but no opportunity to learn….and so much more.
Interested in hanging with us and helping out? Right now, we need help with palletizing the school desks and equipment we got from a school closing. We are planning a big work day on Saturday June 13th. There will also be scheduling a Thursday work day.
Call me, Andrea , 330-416-5619 to find out the details.
