Furrever & After Cat Sanctuary

Furrever & After Cat Sanctuary We also help feral cats through our TNR program. Furrever & After Cat Sanctuary became a 501c3 in 2022.

Furrever & After Cat Sanctuary is a 501c3 nonprofit foster-based rescue based out of Mahoning County in Ohio, dedicated to saving special needs cats, sick or injured kitties, and neonatal kittens. Our mission is to provide care, comfort and resources to animals in need while enlightening the hearts and minds of our community to bring about an end to overpopulation. We are a foster based rescue and

currently do not have an official building. We are very small and only take in a limited amount of cats and kittens at this time. We hope to be able to expand our efforts to be able to save even more animals in need. If you’d like to help us help more kitties in need, consider donating today:
*Please know that our previous rescue name will still show up until the IRS makes the changes necessary for our new name*

Just before going on intake hold, we took in this little fighter named Opal. 💔

Opal was found limping and crying out in pain. The finder was someone we had helped in the past and reached out to us for assistance. While we aren’t exactly sure what happened to her, it is evident that she has suffered a serious injury to her left front leg, likely from some type of bite wound.

When Opal arrived, her wound was severely infected and filled with pus. She was covered in fleas and had even developed fly strike around the injury. At approximately 6 weeks old, she should weigh much more than she does—Opal weighs just 0.66 pounds, making her dangerously underweight for her age.

Today, Opal was seen at Ebert Animal Hospital, where her wound was flushed and cleaned. She was started on antibiotics and pain medication to help fight the infection and keep her comfortable. Unfortunately, the veterinarian is concerned that some of the tissue may no longer be viable, and there is a possibility she could lose her leg.

Right now, our focus is getting the infection under control and helping Opal gain strength. We are hopeful that with proper medical care, good nutrition, and lots of love, she will begin to feel much better in the days ahead.

As many of you know, we are currently on intake hold and are struggling to keep up with the medical expenses for the cats and kittens already in our care. Cases like Opal’s are exactly why your support means so much. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps us provide lifesaving veterinary care to cats who have nowhere else to turn.

🐾 INTAKE HOLD NOTICE 🐾

It breaks our hearts to make this announcement, but Furrever & After Cat Sanctuary is officially on intake hold until further notice.

Our team hates saying no to cases—especially those involving cats and kittens in urgent need. Furrever & After’s primary mission has always been to help the cats who otherwise may not have a chance: special needs cats, orphaned neonatal kittens, nursing mothers and their babies living in unsafe conditions, and other vulnerable felines who require extensive care and support.

Unfortunately, we have reached a point where we simply cannot responsibly take in any additional cats or kittens at this time.

Our funding is critically low, and donations have significantly slowed over the past few months. Meanwhile, we still have numerous cats currently in our care who require veterinary appointments, vaccinations, diagnostic testing, medications, spay/neuter surgeries, and ongoing treatment for complex medical conditions.

We know we are not alone in this struggle. Rescues and shelters everywhere are overwhelmed, operating at or beyond capacity, and facing the same challenges. While we wish we could say yes to every request, we must ensure that the animals already depending on us continue to receive the care they deserve.

If you would consider making a donation to help offset our veterinary expenses, it would mean the world to us. Truly, every dollar makes a difference. Even a $1 donation helps provide food, medical care, and hope for the cats in our program.

With gratitude,

Does anyone recognize this cat?

Found on Penny Lane in Austintown around 6:45pm. He/she was lying in someone’s yard, not moving, and rapidly breathing. The finder believes maybe the cat was hit by a car. One of our board members stopped by and secured the cat. We scanned for a microchip and he/she didn’t have one. There’s no obvious injuries, but there’s definitely something going on with the cat. It’ll be seen by a vet in the meantime, but we’re hopeful we can find the owners.

Please comment or message us if you happen to know who the cat may belong to. 🙏

Medical Update on Momma Bertha 🐾

Momma Bertha was seen today at Ebert Animal Hospital after she was noted to be sounding wheezy. Initially, it was suspected that she may have been suffering from an upper respiratory infection. However, Bertha had no nasal or eye discharge and has continued eating and drinking well.

As part of her examination, Bertha tested negative for FIV and FeLV, which was great news. Later in the day, additional diagnostics were recommended after her veterinarian noticed that her chest felt a little unusual during inhalation. Radiographs (X-rays) were performed, and they revealed that Bertha has a condition called Pectus Excavatum.

What is Pectus Excavatum?

Pectus Excavatum is a congenital condition, meaning an animal is born with it. It occurs when the breastbone (sternum) develops abnormally and sinks inward toward the chest cavity, creating a “sunken chest” appearance. In some cases, this inward compression can put pressure on the lungs and heart, potentially causing breathing difficulties, decreased exercise tolerance, or other respiratory concerns.

Based on what we know, it is likely that Bertha was born with this condition. Unfortunately, her previous owner never sought veterinary care, so it went undiagnosed until now.

The severity of Pectus Excavatum can vary greatly from cat to cat. Some cats require surgical intervention to help correct the chest wall deformity and improve lung function, while others are able to live comfortable, normal lives with monitoring and supportive care. At this time, we will continue working closely with our veterinary team to determine the best course of action for Bertha and assess how much the condition is affecting her quality of life.

We are grateful to have answers and are committed to ensuring Momma Bertha receives the care she needs. Please keep this sweet girl in your thoughts as we continue evaluating her condition. ❤️

Her total bill today was $285. If you’re willing to donate to help offset vet care, it would mean so much to us. You can donate by calling Ebert at (330) 788-5839 and state you’d like to donate under the rescues account. You can also donate via the following:

🚨 URGENT FOSTER NEEDED FOR TWO RESCUED KITTENS 🚨

These two precious babies narrowly escaped a tragic fate yesterday evening. They were found just in time before a group of pit bulls could reach them, and thankfully they were safely rescued before any harm was done. ❤️

Now that they are safe, they need somewhere warm and loving to go while they begin their journey toward a better life.

🐾 About the kittens:

* Gray & white kitten: Male
* Calico kitten: Female
* Approximately 7 weeks old
* Safe, rescued, and ready for a chance at a brighter future

We are urgently seeking a foster home for these little ones. If you can open your heart and home, please complete a foster application on our website:

As with every rescue, these kittens will need veterinary care, including vaccinations, testing, deworming, and eventually spay/neuter services. We could truly use your support to help give them the care they deserve.

🎉 ADOPTED TOGETHER! 🎉

We are beyond excited to share that Precious & Peanut were adopted together yesterday evening! 💗

These sweet girls traveled all the way from Kuwait in search of their furrever home. While we received several applications for them over the past few months, none were quite the right fit—until now! Yesterday, everything fell into place, and these two are officially on their way to a lifetime of love, happiness, and plenty of spoiling.

We also want to give a very special thank you to their incredible fosters, Tracy and Audrey. Their dedication to helping cats in our community is truly inspiring, with much of their time focused on TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) efforts. They opened their hearts and home to Precious and Peanut, caring for them for months while continuing their important TNR work. Their compassion and commitment made this happy ending possible.

It truly takes a village to save lives, and we are so grateful for everything they do. Thank you, Tracy and Audrey, for helping these girls find their furrever family! 💕

Happy Adoption Day, Precious & Peanut! We wish you a lifetime of love, cuddles, and happiness. 🏡🐾🎉💗

Yesterday evening, we rescued a mama cat and her four newborn kittens from unsafe living conditions.

The family who had been caring for her was living in a severely run-down trailer that was scheduled for demolition the following day. They had no transportation, and when they reached out for help, mama was actively in labor.

Mama, whom we’ve named Bertha, gave birth to four kittens on June 14, 2026. Unfortunately, she experienced complications during delivery when the first kitten was born breech. Unsure of what to do, her previous owner attempted to help by pulling on the kitten’s tail. Tragically, this resulted in the kitten’s tail being degloved. Despite the traumatic birth, this little fighter survived and is currently doing very well.

We are urgently seeking a foster home for Bertha and her babies. Right now, Bertha is doing an amazing job caring for her kittens and keeping them well-fed. She is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and deserves a safe, loving place to raise her family.

As a foster, we provide all necessary supplies—you simply provide the space, care, and love until they are ready for adoption. If you’re interested in fostering, please apply at:

www.furreveraftercats.org/foster

In the meantime, Bertha needs to see a veterinarian as soon as possible. She is making a wheezing sound, which her previous owner stated is “normal” for her, but we want to ensure she receives a thorough examination. She will also need to be tested for FIV and FeLV and receive a general health evaluation.

If you are able to donate toward Bertha’s veterinary care and help offset the costs we may incur, we would be incredibly grateful.
