IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY
Pls help me celebrate this philantropist and selfless patriot, Christian Atsu for his immense contribution towards the freedom and wellbeing of Petty Offenders in Ghana's prisons. Through him, 361 prisoners have been freed after paying their fines. Our God fearing friend has gone further to partner CCF in launching the Exconvict Reintegration project to provide jobs for many exconvicts in Ghana. His passion for humanity has also seen him support many orphans and widows who throng the offices of CCF for support. We pray that Allah blesses Atsu even more in the coming years with good health, strength, more footballing years and money to enable him carry on with his Humanitarian projects. Happy birthday champion!

The one in the middle got 20yrs whiles his other friends were given 18yrs each. Their crime - They snatched a mobile phone. Much as criminals should not be treated with kids gloves, do we have to waste the lives of these students, one of whom was writing his WASSCE? So they can't serve the society in any other way? When will Parliament listen to our call and pass a law on Community Service? Haven't they seen some Chinese prisoners in Ghana executing Chinese contracts? That is the way to go!

Pushed into drugs by a wayward boyfriend, Akua Naomi, at a point had to steal to buy more drugs to use. In one such instance, she stole a mobile phone and was convicted to a year in prison because of her inability to pay her court fine. After serving 3 months of her sentence, CCF surprised Naomi by paying her fine. We gave her two hundred cedis to return to Nsawam where she hails from. Her tears sent all of us crying at Sekondi Central Prison. We intend putting her in a vocation that will empower her to be financially independent.

21st Century

One was jailed 9 months for buying a car battery. He claims he never knew it was a stolen item. Another was jailed 8 months for riding an unlicensed motor bike. His friend got 8 months for engaging in galamsey, whiles the one in spectacles was sentenced to one year for stealing 500 cedis. Couldn't they have served the country better than the counter productive prison option? A stinking nation that does not see the need to give petty offenders work to do in the gutters and drains, but finds it expedient to jail and feed them with the tax payers money. CCF got its donors to pay their fines. Go home and sin no more guys. Sin is poison!

We released nine petty offenders from Koforidua Local Prison today after paying their court fines. Their offences - mattress, pig, plantain, and coconut theft. For how long shall we continue to pay fines for their release when the passage of a simple law could put these offenders to good use? In the absence of a non-custodial law in Ghana, offenders who could have desilted our choked and stinking gutters and plant for food and jobs are continuously being thrown into prison and fed at the expense of the taxpayer. Won't the appetite for crime reduce when offenders know they will have to desilt gutters in broad daylight? Won't corrupt politicians shiver at the thought of such dehumanizing public exposure? What is preventing Parliament from passing the non-custodial sentencing bill into law? I just don't understand the feet dragging.
