As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, it’s worth remembering that awareness is just one part of the work.

For EMDR clinicians, it’s part of the work every day, holding space, supporting healing and navigating complexity alongside clients.

How can EMDR therapy be more culturally responsive?

In recognition of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we asked EMDRIA members to share how they approach case conceptualization with AANHPI clients.

Their responses highlight the importance of cultural humility, understanding intergenerational and migration-related experiences and adapting EMDR to reflect each client’s identity, values and lived experience.

From honoring collectivist values and family roles to integrating strengths like community and spirituality, these perspectives offer a deeper look at how EMDR can remain flexible, respectful and effective across cultures.

New from the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research®:

A recent feasibility study explored the use of EMDR therapy as an adjunctive treatment for adolescents with eating disorders, examining impacts on eating disorder symptoms, trauma symptoms, and emotional regulation.

Preliminary findings suggest EMDR-ED may be a feasible and valuable addition to standard eating disorder treatment, particularly when addressing underlying trauma and attachment-related experiences.

For some, Mother’s Day marks a day of celebration. For others, it can bring grief, longing, stress, reflection, or complicated memories.

In EMDR therapy, we understand that attachment, caregiving and early relationships can shape how safety, connection and emotion are experienced throughout life.

Today, we honor every person navigating this day in their own way, and the ongoing work of healing, care and connection.
