🏳️‍⚧️ Today is Trans Day of Visibility! A day to celebrate the accomplishments of trans and gender nonconforming people while raising awareness of the work that still needs to be done to achieve trans justice.

✨We are thrilled to partner with founder, to outline ways educators can support trans students, how visibility is being weaponized, and the debunked theory of "ROGD".

Congratulations to our extraordinary GLSEN Austin Board Member, Isaac James, now a Rhodes Scholar!

He's one of the smartest, hardest working people we've ever had the honor of knowing - We can't wait to see the amazing things he has in store for this world.

Congratulations, Isaac!

LGBTQ Studies is bubbling over with excitment as one of our own, Isaac James c/o '22, has been honored as a Rhodes Scholar!!! Isaac, who was a LGBTQ Studies minor while completing a double major in Plan II Honors and Government, will begin his studies at the University of Oxford in the fall in pursuit of a M.Sc. in education at Oxford, with a concentration in digital and social change.

While at UT, Isaac was a pillar of the LGBTQ Community, serving on the UT Senate of College Councils and directed the Q***r and Trans Student Alliance, working in the Sexual Orienation and Gender Identity Lab, interned for the LGBTQ+ Legislative Caucus at the Texas Capital, and serving as a board memeber and Legislative Chair for GLSEN-Austin.

Please join in congratulating Isaac on this incredible accomplishment! Read more about Isaac below:

Trans students are under attack. According to our National School Climate Survey, transgender students experience the most hostile school climates compared to their peers. With more than 150 anti-trans bills filed this year alone, it’s clear that trans youth are under attack. From school bathrooms to locker rooms, trans students’ daily lives have been politicized and restricted.

This , and always, we need to rise up and protect trans kids to make schools safer and more affirming. Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing stats around trans students and actionable ways we can make things better in schools. 🏳️‍⚧

Do you know a K–12 student who advocates for LGBTQ+ inclusivity at their school? If so, nominate them for GLSEN’s Student Advocate of the Year Award!

Every year, GLSEN honors one exceptional student leader who has done outstanding work in making their schools inclusive and affirming for LGBTQ+ students. After an application and interview process, the chosen Student Advocate of the Year and an adult chaperone will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Los Angeles, CA to be honored at the LA Respect Awards on October 14th, 2022. At the ceremony, they will have the chance to meet other LGBTQ+ student leaders and share the stage with celebrity guests.

You can nominate LGBTQ+ student advocates by filling out the application today! The deadline to apply is Sunday, August 14th at 11:59 pm PST. https://act.glsen.org/a/student-advocate-year-award-nomination?
