12/21/2022
An arctic cold front is expected to arrive Thursday 22 December 2022.
This front will bring strong winds and bitterly cold temperatures, but will not bring ice or snow.
Plans should begin now to insure people, pets, plants and pipes are protected during the coming period of polar air
As many of you know, once the temperature goes below freezing for more than a night or two, the danger of pipes freezing increases. This is because the pipes are located on the outside wall of the buildings.
Avoid the serious damage caused by frozen pipes bursting. Flooding and extensive damage to your apartment, personal belongings and your neighbors' apartment can all be caused by water pipes freezing and bursting.
Freeze Warning Tips for Residents/Tenants
When temperatures are forecast to be below 32 F, water pipes can freeze, burst, and cause a great deal of damage. Help protect your apartment or home by taking these steps during a freeze:
• Let your faucets drip! Run both hot and cold water in a very fine stream in each of your apartment’s faucets: kitchen sink, bathroom sinks, bath tubs, showers, etc.
• Open your cupboards! Leave the cabinet doors under all sinks open so that the pipes will be ventilated with warm air. Leaving the bathroom and kitchen doors open helps too.
• Heat your home! If you leave for the day (or an extended period of time) do not turn the heat completely off. Turn it on, set to the lowest setting you wish (60° is recommended).
