🎉 Help us celebrate National Arts and Humanities month and welcome the AARC's two new fall exhibits, Frottage: Meaning and Remembering by Gabrielle Clemente and Koi Ponds by Lauren Hua, on Tuesday, October 27 from 6 to 8pm! Exhibits will be on-view until February 6, 2027.

During the Exhibit Reception attendees will have a chance to meet artists Gabrielle Clemente and Lauren Hua, learn about their processes and inspiration behind their work, and view the exhibits on display in our lobby, Zen Garden hallway, and Zen Garden. Light refreshments will be provided (first-come, first-served).

The AARC, in collaboration with Dance Waterloo, presents Returning to the River: A Community Movement Workshop, happening on Saturday, November 7 from 12 to 1:15pm!

🌵 Returning to the River is an interactive, accessible dance workshop that invites participants to explore memory, place, and return through movement inspired by Joy Harjo’s journey back to the Chattahoochee River in An American Sunrise.

Note: Participants do not need previous dance experience or familiarity with An American Sunrise to participate. Movements can be adapted for different bodies, abilities, energy levels, and comfort levels. Participants may move while standing or seated, take breaks when needed, and choose their own level of participation. ✨

🌱 Join us to slow down and share space in community during Nature and Art Day, happening at the AARC on Saturday, October 24 from 10am to 12pm - rain or shine!

We will have guided activities available, including reflections, planting a seedling into our Intergenerational garden, and creating art with natural materials, as well as opportunities to learn from local organizations working in gardens, conservation, and more. If you would prefer a solo adventure, you are welcome to bring a blanket and enjoy time under the giant trees on AARC's Great Lawn or our Zen Garden.

Nature and Art Day is part of Austin's Roots and Wings Festival, a community-wide celebration of nature in our city, as well as Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment's Arts and Humanities Month programming.

👋 Meet Ben Aqua, our Guest Speaker for Invisible Losses: Acknowledging Grief in Caregiving Spaces, happening at the AARC on Saturday, October 24 from 10am to 1pm!

Ben Aqua is an Austin-based multidisciplinary artist whose work explores themes of q***r identity, intersectionality, the avant-garde, and technology. They also co-facilitate an LGBTQIA+ grief support group with Hospice Austin, creating a compassionate space for collective healing and community care.

Invisible Losses is a collaboration between the AARC and Asian Family Support Services of Austin (AFSSA). This event is free and open to the public; children's activities will be provided. Learn more and RSVP 👉 bit.ly/AARCEventbrite

📢 The AARC is proud to present our two new Fall exhibits, Koi Ponds by Lauren Hua and Frottage: Meaning and Remembering by Gabrielle Clemente, on-view at the AARC from October 27 through February 6, 2027! Join us and the artists to celebrate at the Opening Reception on Tuesday, October 27 from 6 to 8pm.

✨ Koi Ponds: Lauren Hua’s solo exhibition, Koi Ponds, features a series of free-flowing meditative studies of energy and natural elements inspired by the practice and cultivation of Koi fish. Hua’s paintings interlace Japanese, Chinese, and American stylistic influences in the media, techniques, and materials used. This collection of work honors Hua’s Asian American upbringing, identity, and family history, while also highlighting her personal commitment to and journey in pursuing the arts, despite being taught that these things are of little value. Koi Ponds is Hua’s personal dedication to embracing what it means to Asian American.

✨ Frottage: Meaning and Remembering: Gabrielle Clemente’s work can be primarily described as archival. Through their practice, they are documenting personal history and their family's lived experiences. Flattening years of documentation and conversations into one drawing, a photograph. Clemente aims to create an experience with their work that breaks down a traditional gallery space, an environment entrenched in academia and largely inaccessible to many.

📖 Join us for our last Hyphenated meetup of the year on Thursday, October 22 from 6 to 7:30pm! We'll be discussing Late Bloomers by Deepa Varadarajan, a fiction novel about finding new happiness late in life, for yourself and for your family.

🫶 Join the Asian American Resource Center (AARC), in collaboration with Asian Family Support Services of Austin (AFSSA), for Invisible Losses: Acknowledging Grief in Caregiving Spaces, happening at the AARC on Saturday, October 24 from 10am to 1pm.

This interactive workshop is designed to explore the grief and sense of loss that can accompany the caregiving journey. It will feature discussions, interactive activities, and a community altar - participants are welcome to bring a small meaningful item to contribute.
