The Living History Foundation Honor Guard

The Living History Foundation Honor Guard The Living History Foundation Honor Guard will be comprised of veterans, students and volunteers from Travis County and the surrounding area.

The Living History Foundation has and always will be about sharing the history of the people of color in this country and inspiring children and adults alike to learn about them. However, there is more to the LHF then that. When this organization was founded we had another concern in mind, how do we get young people involved in the telling of our history? This organization has traveled throughout

Texas and one thing we hear quite a bit from our younger audience is they don’t feel history is relevant. That’s is why we started working on building an honor guard. We do this because:

You must admit 657,000 burials a year in the U.S. is a staggering number. Sadly, with all the cutbacks the military is having a hard time keeping up with veteran funerals, even with the help of volunteer groups like the VFW, police, fire and EMS honor guards. What better way to teach history than to have a group of young people (the LHF’s honor guard) helping to give our veterans a proper military send off. And at the same time allow them to listen to their friends and family talk about their accomplishments in the military and as civilians. We believe that history isn’t just something that happened in the distant past, or is found in monuments or books. It can be found in honoring those who put their lives on the line so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today.
