Alhamdulillah!

The McKinney City Council voted 7-0 to approve the site plan for the McKinney Islamic Association’s new campus on Virginia Parkway, after a marathon meeting with 100+ speakers and hours of public comment. Grateful for every community member and ally who came out to speak in defense of religious freedom 🤲

The fight isn’t over, but this was a big step forward.

A federal judge allowed EPIC’s religious freedom lawsuit against the Texas Funeral Service Commission to move forward, rejecting the state’s motion to dismiss. The judge also dismissed claims that EPIC sought to impose “Sharia law,” finding no evidence to support them, and noted that state officials’ conduct appeared rooted in religious discrimination. CAIR-Texas DFW Director Mustafaa Carroll commended the ruling as an affirmation that religious liberty applies equally to all Texans, and called on officials to stop targeting Muslim communities with unsubstantiated claims and political rhetoric.

“We have simply got to make people aware that none of us are free until we’re all free.” — Opal Lee, Grandmother of Juneteenth

That’s the heart of this day. Juneteenth isn’t just a celebration of freedom delivered, it’s a reminder that freedom withheld from anyone is freedom incomplete for everyone.

This Juneteenth, CAIR-Texas stands on that same truth.
Happy Juneteenth. 🤎
