Feminist Design Collective

Feminist Design Collective The Feminist Design Collective at UTSOA was founded in 2014 to promote inclusive and diverse environments in the field of design.

Our mission is to create an empowered community of marginalized groups and individuals by means of: bringing awareness to the lack of diversity and support in, specifically, but not limited to, female involvement in the realm of architecture, and facilitating open and inclusive discussion regarding power structures and gender roles in the built environment. Our values as an organization include: s

ocial justice, safe spaces, collaborative learning and design, community involvement (within University of Texas and in the greater Austin community)

By the end of the 2014-2015 academic year we anticipate to have released a zine and have one roundtable lunch discussion with a prominent female architect in the Austin community. Other anticipated activities include (but are not limited to):
a lecture and lunch (roundtable discussion) series, feminist design workshops/design build adventures,
art and design spaces,
gallery spaces,
discussions about power structure and gender roles in the built environment,
film and discussion,
reading group,
involvement with early-education
