지난 9월 2일에 어스틴 한인회가 차세대 리더십 포럼 후원을 주최했습니다.

장소는 Austin Southpark Hotel(4143 Governors Row, Austin, TX. 78744)에서,
시간은 저녁 4시부터 7시까지 진행되었습니다.

주휴스턴총영사관 정영호 총영사의 강의가 있었고, 에세이 공모를 통해 총 19명의 청소년 및 대학생들에게 장학금을 수여했습니다.

5월 13일(일) 오스틴 아시안 아메리칸 리소스 센터(Asian American Resource Center, 이하 AARC) 에서 아시아 각국의 문화를 소개하는 자리를 만들었습니다. 비가 오는 데도 불구하고 많은 분들이 관심을 가져 주셨습니다.

한국을 포함해 많은 아시아 나라에서 각국의 전통의상 및 음악, 악기, 깃발 등을 전시 및 소개 많은 사람들의 다양한 문화 체험을 할 수 있었습니다.

수백여명의 방문객은 오스틴 한인회가 마련한 한복입기 체험과 태극기 색칠하기는 긴 줄이 늘어설 정도로 흥행에 성공했습니다.

넷플릭스 드라마 오징어게임으로 인해 유명해진 딱지치기를 소개하면서 현지인들의 호기심을 자극하기 충분했으면 한국 문화를 더욱더 알리는데 이바지를 했습니다.

5월은 미국에서 아시아-태평양계 미국인(AAPI) 문화유산의 달입니다. AAPI 공동체와 이들이 미국 역사 및 문화에 공헌한 바를 기념하는 달이죠. 5월이 AAPI 문화유산의 달로 지정된 이유는 5월에 AAPI 공동체와 관련한 두 가지 역사적 사건이 일어났기 때문입니다. 1843년 5월 7일에는 미국에 최초로 일본계 이민자가 상륙했으며 1869년 5월 10일에는 미국 최초의 대륙횡단 철도가 중국계 근로자의 상당한 기여에 힘입어 완공되었습니다.
