Austin’s weather feels more unpredictable lately, and it’s not just in your head.

From extreme heat to flash floods, Austin is preparing for a future where climate disasters may become more common.

One way? Partnering with the University of Texas at Austin to better understand risks and build a more resilient city.

The good news: nature is part of the solution. Trees, parks, and healthy green spaces can help cool neighborhoods, absorb floodwater, and make Austin stronger when extreme weather hits.

Climate resilience doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it looks like protecting the places that protect us.

El clima de Austin parece más impredecible últimamente, y no es solo una impresión tuya.

Desde calores extremos hasta inundaciones repentinas, Austin se está preparando para un futuro en el que los desastres climáticos podrían volverse más frecuentes.

Austin is losing green space, often before the public even knows it.

A legal loophole allows parkland to be condemned and sold with limited community input, even when it has served as public green space for decades.

In a park-deficient city like Austin, that means every acre is at risk.

City Council passed a resolution in March to change the process and require a clearer policy for parkland condemnation.

A city update is expected May 28.

The city kept growing. Parks didn’t.
More people. Same space. Same parking.
We don’t just need to protect parks.

We need to start growing them again.
