Empowering Texas Communities

Empowering Texas Communities Hello, we're Texans, working together to make healthier Texas communities Tim served as an ACC board member from 2008-2015. With staff members, Mr.

He is an attorney, community lawyer, and trained mediator. Building structures for community cooperation and the consensus is among his longtime interests, and community education is his passion. Graduating in 1974 from Dallas Community College, Tim returned to Austin in 1975, completing a degree in humanities from the University of Texas in 1978. His journalism skills won him a number of national

awards for articles written in the Texas Observer about taxing and bank-holding companies. Tim’s attendance at the LBJ School of Public Affairs resulted in his 1982 master’s thesis, A Case Study of Decentralized Power Systems and Municipal Politics, Austin, Texas, from 1979 to 1981. Entering the South Texas College of Law in 1989, he received his J.D. in 1991, with coursework at the University of Texas School of Law. He was licensed to practice law in Texas in 1992. Tim is a community builder with over 20 years of legal experience. A resident of the Mueller development, Tim owns and operates a successful law firm located in the heart of South Austin, on South First Street. It is not uncommon for him to choose his bicycle over the driving commute down 1-35. Mahoney's practice focuses on a range of civil, administrative and family litigation, providing legal services through private contacts, pre-paid legal insurance programs, and Court-appointments. For the last few years, Tim has worked with other community leaders to find ways to empower local communities. That continuing effort has included organizing neighborhood-based capacity-building training programs, including the 2007 Neighborhood Planning Conference at Austin Community College’s Eastview Campus. (See www.neighboraustin.com for more information.). Tim is especially proud of the ACC Board’s adoption in 2014 of a modified Policy B-7 which is an effort to build interactive community relationships with the ACC Board, and potentially build better policy. See http://www.austincc.edu/board/policies/b7.php. Tim and his wife, Melanie, have been married since 1989. Between them, they have four children. The two eldest are married; one lives in Austin, and the other in Ashville, North Carolina. All the children have attended AISD schools, and the two youngest pursuing completing their college educations.

Friends: I’ll be at the SDEC meeting in Longview on 9/13/25 with my wife Melanie… I certainly hope we do better organizing for the November 2026 elections because otherwise …

Just wanted to get this effort to you to see if you might be interested in broadcasting this offer to your network. With luck, I’ll see you in Longview at the next SDEC meeting on 9/12/25. We can only improve our performance by working together…

Texas can’t wait, and you can make a difference! Here’s the top takeaways for this email:

1. Texas Organizers must find common cause in their regional communities, whether in a neighborhood, church, environmental, or other social/political organization/ Grassroots means all, at the local level.

2. Even if good candidates are elected in Texas in November of 2026, getting good policies developed will require new and empowered on-going regional grassroots communities in Texas/ This last Legislative Session has demonstrated that we need to have an grassroots structure outside even a friendly Legislature.

3. The Campaign for Digital Strategy (CDS) people, beginning 9/14/25 are providing a 3-month training to enhance regional AI-enhanced, grassroots organizational skills for regional Cohorts. Get more information here. Over the 12-weeks, the training blends core learning sessions, tactical implementation, community learning, and office hours—so you can absorb new concepts and immediately start applying them in your work—and create regional cohorts while you are trained.

4. This training is available at a discount to people who respond to this email by using a code when they enroll at https://www.centerfordigitalstrategy.com/ai-for-nonprofits-and-advocacy/cohort. This training costs $999, but for people who get this email, they can register for $399, after entering this code at checkout: TXLOCAL399 .

5. CDS also offers scholarships. Or maybe community organizations can pay the tuition for college students and others who might be interested in helping your organization. We have to be more conscious than we have in the past because gerrymandering by the Texas Legislature makes it so we have to be very intentional how we focus on the ground in our communities…

6. Need to know more? Here’s a short video, and/or you can sign up here to schedule a small group video call before 9/14/25…

Friends: We’ve been working with the Center for Digital Strategy (CDS) folks for this past year, and they understand that we are at a crossroads of getting AI to work for us, or AI will continue to become the market instead of us.

Attached is a copy of the Information Sheet (or a link below) regarding the trainings at this discounted price, now through at least the end of July… a discounted rate of $399 instead of the normal $999. CDS also offers scholarships. Join our efforts to create trained activist collaborations with Cohort AI training by attending this training opportunity.

The training is currently scheduled to begin in August, then continue in September and October See this link for additional information about the Training: https://centerfordigitalstrategy.com/ai-for-nonprofits-and-advocacy/cohort/?utm_source=Center+for+Digital+Strategy&utm_campaign=68885ddbac-AI_Cohort_1_1&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_9b679673d3-f3b66be004-572301963&mc_cid=68885ddbac&mc_eid=b5e0f449e6)
