This Memorial Day, we honor the service and sacrifice of the men and women who gave their lives for our country.

We recognize the importance of ensuring veterans and military families have access to the civil legal support they may need after service, from housing and benefits to family stability and recovery after hardship.

Access to justice strengthens communities and helps Texans move forward with dignity. Today, we remember those who served and reflect on the responsibility to support those they left behind.

In Texas, 2 in 5 women will experience some form of sexual violence in their lifetime.

As featured in The Dallas Morning News, Justice Brett Busby and Heather Bellino of the Texas Advocacy Project highlight how access to civil legal aid can be a lifeline to survivors.

Civil legal aid helps survivors take critical steps toward safety and stability, including securing protective orders, protecting privacy and navigating housing or custody challenges. These pathways should never depend on wealth or status.

Through the Legal Aid for Survivors of Sexual Assault network (LASSA), survivors across Texas can access critical civil legal services across Texas. Survivors can access the LASSA network by calling 1-844-303-7233 (SAFE) or visiting https://brnw.ch/21x2dxC to connect directly with an attorney for free legal advice. Help is available in every county in Texas.

To better understand why this work matters, read the full article in The Dallas Morning News.

Happy Law Day!

Every year on May 1, Law Day offers a chance to reflect on the importance of the rule of law and strengthen our understanding of the legal system.

“The 129 nonprofit legal services organizations that LSC supports across the country are committed to this ideal: that justice should be accessible for those without the means to pay for it,” writes LSC Chair John Levi in his Law Day statement.

Legal aid supports survivors of sexual assault.

Through the Legal Aid for Survivors of Sexual Assault (LASSA) program, Texans can access free, confidential legal services designed to protect their rights and support their recovery.

Legal aid attorneys help survivors navigate protective orders, housing issues, employment concerns and privacy protections, ensuring they have the information and advocacy they need to move forward.

Access to justice plays a critical role in restoring safety, stability and dignity.
