African American Youth Harvest Foundation

African American Youth Harvest Foundation Since 2006, AAYHF has empowered Central Texas youth with workshops and presentations to build academic, social, and workforce skills.

By identifying community needs, we’ve partnered with organizations to create a one-stop-shop of resources under one roof. AAYHF is positioned to effectively leverage community resources to address significant barriers impacting the quality of life for residents in the Eastern Crescent of City of Austin. Since 2006, AAYHF, a community-based organization, spearheads mission-aligned and strategic col

laborative initiatives to ensure low barrier access to vital resources intended to transition youth and their families to self-sufficiency and community defined success that effectually addresses the social determinants of health, educational success and economic stability throughout the most vulnerable neighborhoods in the City of Austin and Travis County. Vulnerabilities made evident by notable disparities and disproportionalities fueled by the conditions in which these community members are born, age, grow, work, live, and the wider set of forces and systems shaping the conditions of their daily life.

Today marks the official start of the 2026 Urban University Summer Camp, and things are already off to an amazing start. Our youth arrived on campus bright‑eyed and full of energy, excited to reconnect with staff, reunite with old friends, and maybe even make a few new ones along the way.
The UU team is looking forward to another fun, educational‑filled summer. Check back often to see what our camp goers are up to throughout the season.

We were truly honored to host the 2nd Annual Transformative Youth Justice Summer Celebration and Resource Fair in partnership with Judge Denise Hernández, the Transformative Youth Justice Program, and Tomorrow’s Promise Foundation. It was a powerful moment of connection as we welcomed youth, families, and community members from across our region to gather, engage, and celebrate together.

The day was filled with meaningful resources and incredible community partners who showed up to support our youth and families. From the African American Youth Harvest Foundation and Tomorrow’s Promise Foundation to Travis County Reentry Services, Life Anew, the Austin Area Urban League, The College of Health Care Professionals, and many others our vendors created a space full of opportunity, guidance, and encouragement.

But it wasn’t all business, there was plenty of fun to go around! Attendees enjoyed activity stations that brought the ranch to life, including volleyball, co****le, Connect Four, and a bounce house that kept the energy high. Youth also had the chance to experience horseback riding and ATV rides, creating moments they won’t soon forget.
We’re especially grateful to the barbers who generously provided free haircuts, helping our young people feel confident and refreshed. And of course, no celebration is complete without good food, guests enjoyed a delicious BBQ lunch with all the sides, bringing everyone together around the table.
Before heading home, attendees didn’t leave empty-handed. Many walked away with an array of food items and resources to help support their families beyond the event, because at AAYHF, our goal is always to meet both immediate and long-term needs.

This celebration was more than just an event; it was a reminder of what’s possible when community comes together with purpose. We are grateful to every partner, volunteer, and attendee who made the day impactful. Together, we are building stronger pathways, brighter futures, and a more connected community.

AAYHF was proud to host Texas Empowerment Academy students today for an end-of-the-school-year celebration at Blake Manor Ranch, a day filled with connection, learning, and fun in the great outdoors.

Students enjoyed riding ATVs, horseback riding, learning about horses, and spending time in the pool with friends. The day was topped off with a BBQ lunch, bringing everyone together to relax and recharge.

Seeing students laugh, explore, and fully engage with the outdoor experience was truly a joy for our team and everyone involved. Moments like these remind us how powerful it is when young people have the space to connect, grow, and simply enjoy being together.

AAYHF Week in Review

This past week, AAYHF continued to move forward with purpose, connection, and impact, both nationally and right here at home.
We were proud to have Mrs. Elaine Lofton represent AAYHF at the AI Leadership Lab in New York as part of the Youth Skills & Employment Accelerator. This experience is helping us bring new ideas in innovation, leadership, and technology back to our programs, ensuring the youth and families we serve are prepared for the future and positioned to lead.
While in New York, AAYHF leadership, including Mr. Lofton, connected with national partners, strengthening relationships and gaining insight that continues to shape our work locally.

Back in Austin, we were honored to participate in several powerful community efforts. From standing alongside partners at Bollywood Meets Borscht Belt 2026, helping raise funds for Back-to-School supplies, to supporting families through the Black Mamas Bailout, this week reflected the heart of our mission: service, compassion, and community action.
We also celebrate a major milestone as three of our team members completed their Community Health Worker certification, strengthening the support we provide to families every day.

From innovation to advocacy to community engagement, this week is a reminder that the work we do together is creating real and lasting impact.

As we close out our final night of school-year programming, we're reflecting with full hearts and deep gratitude.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, our space came alive because of the young people who showed up ready to learn, the parents and caregivers who supported them week after week, and the staff, volunteers, and mentors who poured their hearts into every session.

To our youth, you are the reason we do this work. Your curiosity and resilience inspire us every day.
To our parents and caregivers, thank you for your trust and consistency.
To our staff, volunteers, and mentors, your dedication is what makes this work truly special.

Last night marked the end of an amazing season, but the journey isn't over. We're excited to transition into our Urban University Summer Camp, where students will continue learning, exploring, and growing. We can't wait to welcome everyone back!

With gratitude,
AAYHF
