This World Mental Health Day, we’re sharing what we wish more people understood about mental health and cancer.

Today, we’re working to raise $4,200: a full course of care, 40 therapy sessions, for one person navigating cancer.

When someone hears “you have cancer,” the people who love them hear it too.

Partners, children, parents, caregivers, friends: everyone close to them carries part of the weight. And when the medical bills pile up and income takes a hit, mental health care is often the first thing to go.

September was a month of community, connection and impact!

We hit the road (and the pavement 🏃) this month! From community events and conferences to 26.2 miles in Berlin, we spent September spreading the word, connecting with our community, and raising funds for our mission. 💙

Here’s what we were up to →

Flatwater was proud to be a beneficiary of the Ricky Williams Celebrity Golf Scramble this September.

The annual tournament brings together athletes, celebrities, and golf enthusiasts for a day of competition, camaraderie, and local charity support.

We’re grateful for opportunities that bring our community together while helping expand access to mental health care for those impacted by cancer.

We loved connecting with patients, survivors, caregivers and advocates at the Texas Oncology Survive & Thrive Conference.

Thank you, Texas Oncology, for bringing this community together and giving Flatwater the opportunity to share our mission and resources!

House of Shan has been a longtime supporter and advocate of Flatwater, and we’re grateful to their community for helping us continue providing access to mental health therapy for Central Texans navigating cancer.

A huge congratulations and thank you to these 8 amazing humans who ran the Berlin Marathon on Team Flatwater!

After months of training, each committed to raising $3,000, and together they raised more than $20,750 to help families navigating cancer access mental health therapy. We could not be more proud and grateful for their commitment. 💙

A cancer diagnosis changes more than your physical health. It can impact your mental health, your family, your finances and nearly every part of daily life.

And getting the right mental health support isn’t always simple.

22-64% of people with cancer report stress about paying medical expenses.

And when therapy averages $175 per session in Central Texas, getting mental health support can feel like one more expense families can’t take on.

Flatwater participants pay $0 for up to 40 therapy sessions.

Therapy shouldn’t be another financial barrier.

Flatwater breaks down the financial barriers to mental health support by covering the cost of therapy so individuals, couples, and families impacted by cancer can focus on getting the support they need, not how they’re going to pay for it.

Managing out-of-pocket costs.

We take those barriers out of the equation by funding access to care directly.

Finding the right therapist can be overwhelming - especially when you’re already navigating cancer.

Flatwater has built a vetted network of licensed psychotherapists specializing in trauma and cancer-related stress.

Cancer-informed. Trauma-informed. Culturally responsive.

Support isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Our network includes:
• Care for ages 5+
• Spanish-speaking providers
• Talk therapy + Equine Assisted Psychotherapy
• Thoughtful therapist matching based on each participant’s needs
• In-person and Telehealth options within our 10 county service area

You choose the therapist who feels right for you.

It reaches Partners. Children. Parents. Caregivers. Entire families.

Flatwater exists to make sure mental health support is within reach for the people cancer impacts.

Every session we fund is one less barrier between someone and the support they need.
