Austin Women in Technology Austin Women in Technology (AWT) is an Austin-based organization, chartered in 2000 as the Association for Women in Technology -- Austin (AWTAustin).

Austin Women in Technology (AWT) is an Austin not-for-profit organization whose events and membership are open to all who support our mission: To cultivate a community interested in tech providing opportunities to connect, learn, grow, & lead. We changed our name in 2009 but maintain a commitment to the intention on which the original organization was formed: providing a venue for women in the field of technology to network and assist other women who work in, with or have a passion for technology. Many of the founding members of AWT are trailblazers. They have the hard-won experience of being "firsts": the first ones in their families to attend college; the first to study in a technical field or work for a technology company; the first woman on a management team, board or project; the first to start a company. We continue to provide a support and intellectual system for women pushing their own boundaries, whether they be the first, fiftieth or five hundreth to achieve their goals. AWT accomplishes this purpose by building a visible community of individuals supporting women in technology, offering opportunities to work side-by-side with our entirely volunteer committees and board, and creating a variety of programs that provide opportunities for the whole community to network and learn about topics of interest to women in technology.

Building a product used to take months. Now it can take a weekend. So what’s the one step you can’t skip?

Sarah Burkhart, founder of Stardust Home Services and a former Fortune 50 tech exec, says it’s talking to real customers. A fast, polished product built on a wrong assumption is still wrong, just wrong faster.
Her new post for the Austin Women in Technology (AWT) community covers how to run honest customer conversations and why falling in love with the problem beats falling in love with your solution.

Today we pause to remember September 11, 2001, and all those whose lives were lost or forever changed.

We hold space for the victims, their families, and the first responders who ran toward danger to help others. Twenty-five years later, we remember, and we carry that spirit of resilience and community forward.

A quick reminder for anyone weighing budget against impact: AWT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, run entirely by volunteers. Every sponsorship dollar goes straight back into programs that help women in tech connect, learn, and lead and it’s a tax-deductible contribution.

There aren’t many ways to get marketing visibility, recruiting reach, and community goodwill out of a charitable donation. This is one of them.

Sponsorships start at $1500, and in-kind donations are welcome too. Reach out to Elissa Fox or check out the guide to see where your company fits: https://canva.link/0c2wiczykmibjto

What a way to kick off this year’s mentorship program.

The energy in the room on August 31st was electric from the first minute. Mentors and mentees sat down together and skipped right past the small talk, diving into real conversations about career goals, challenges, and what they each hope to get out of this journey. You could feel how much people wanted to be there.

A few things that stood out:
• The room was buzzing with genuine excitement to connect
• Pairs dove straight into meaningful, honest conversations
• There was a real sense of commitment, not just to one kickoff event, but to showing up for each other all program long

This is exactly what AWT mentorship is about: not a one-time meeting, but the start of a relationship built on continuous growth. We can’t wait to see where these pairings go from here.
