September got a little busy around here, between event prep and celebrating an incredible night, we almost let this spotlight slip by, but we couldn’t miss the chance to recognize someone who helps us make it all happen!

Meet our September Volunteer Spotlight, Taylor! For the past three years, she’s been a dedicated part of our Thursday cold-packing team, bringing so much heart to everything she does for us. She’s also been a huge part of bringing our event visions to life the past couple years (those beautiful silent auction tables? All her)! She shows up when we need her most, especially during our busiest seasons.

Taylor first got involved through a company Thanksgiving serve day and, as she puts it, she was hooked! These days, she loves the Thursday morning team who have all become friends, and says there’s something so satisfying about the organization and efficiency of packing groceries together. She was also drawn to how Hungry Souls uses real food, from ground beef to fresh vegetables from local farms, to serve families in our community.

As she shared, volunteering with Hungry Souls is an amazing way to be the hands and feet of Jesus. We’re so thankful she’s been part of our team for the past three years and for the extra time she gave to help make our event such a special night.

We’re still feeling so grateful for everyone who joined us for our Wh***ey & Wildflowers Big Fall Event and made the evening so special.

The room was full of generosity and so much love for the children and families we serve.

Thank you for showing up, raising your paddles, sharing a meal, enjoying the music, and believing in the mission of Hungry Souls! Your support means we can continue feeding children and fueling futures across our community.

As we wrap up Hunger Action Month, we want to leave you with one important reminder: food insecurity doesn’t always look the way we think it does.

It can look like a parent skipping meals so their children can eat.
It can look like a family choosing between groceries and an unexpected bill.
It can look like a child coming to school hungry and hoping no one notices.
It can look like a family you know, a child in your community, a coworker, a neighbor, or a friend.

Food insecurity doesn’t always have a visible sign. You may not know who is experiencing it, and that’s why creating a community where families can access the food they need matters so much.

Thank you for playing your part this Hunger Action Month by learning, volunteering, advocating, donating, and helping us share the reality of hunger in our community.

Hunger may not always be visible, but together, we can make sure no child has to face it alone. 🧡

We’re kicking off a month all about taking action against hunger in our community.

Throughout September, we’ll be sharing ways to learn more, raise awareness, get involved, give back, and make an impact. Because ending hunger takes all of us!

Some volunteers pack the bags. Some deliver them. And then there are volunteers like Perry. 

Since May 2024, Perry has been one of our Thursday delivery drivers, taking our furthest delivery route to Elgin and helping ensure food reaches more than 100 local families every week.

He first learned about Hungry Souls through a friend who works as a Parent Support Specialist in AISD. Hearing how Hungry Souls trusts schools to identify students in need and provides meals directly, without questionnaires, unnecessary red tape, or judgment, made him want to get involved. He says volunteering is about being part of a direct, tangible solution. Every Thursday, he knows that the meals he delivers are helping families head into the weekend with one less thing to worry about.

His commitment to Hungry Souls extends well beyond his weekly delivery route too! Perry has been helping us repair and maintain our freezers, saving us significant costs while making sure we can continue safely storing fresh food for our families!

We’re so grateful for the miles Perry drives and all the ways he helps keep Hungry Souls moving! Thank you, Perry, for being such an important part of our volunteer team! 💚
