For one aspiring physician, the ABPA Clinical Shadowing Program became so much more than a shadowing experience—it became a community.

Through meaningful mentorship, lifelong connections, and the opportunity to learn from Black physicians who have paved the way, our students gain the confidence to pursue their dreams knowing they belong in medicine.

ABPA has expanded my village and surrounded me with a community of support, mentorship, and encouragement that I am deeply grateful for. Being mentored by Black physicians has been life-changing. Last Tuesday, we proudly celebrated the students selected for the 2026 Clinical Shadowing Program and recognized the physicians and clinicians who have generously committed their time, mentorship, and expertise to support the next generation of Black healthcare professionals.
During the event, students were fitted for their scrubs and received their official ABPA pins, marking the beginning of an exciting journey of learning, mentorship, and professional growth. The evening provided an opportunity for students and healthcare leaders to connect, build meaningful relationships, and strengthen a community dedicated to increasing representation and excellence in healthcare.
We are grateful to everyone who participated and helped make this special event a success. Together, we are creating pathways, opening doors, and investing in future leaders who will shape healthcare for generations to come.

Last Friday, the Austin Black Physicians Association gathered at Emerald Tavern Games and Cafe for an incredible evening of board games, laughter, connection, and community building. From friendly competition to meaningful conversations, the night was a reminder of how important it is to create spaces where people can relax, connect, and simply enjoy being together.

Events like these are about more than just games… they’re about building relationships and creating opportunities for people from all walks of life to come together in a welcoming environment.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and helped make the night such a success. The ABPA is excited to continue growing this community and creating more opportunities to connect.
