This March, the Texas Center for Disability Studies celebrates Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month with We're Here: Then, Now, Always.

People with developmental disabilities have always been part of our communities — even when systems kept them hidden, segregated, or excluded from full participation in community life across Texas and the country.

History matters. Not for nostalgia — for understanding how far we've come, and how much further we still need to go.

At TCDS, we've spent 36 years working alongside individuals with developmental disabilities and their families to advance research, education, and advocacy that supports full community participation for all Texans. That work continues this month and every month.
