Meet Our Host & Emcee: Stacy Armijo 🎤

We’re thrilled to welcome Stacy Armijo, Chief Experience Officer at Amplify Credit Union and host of the Changing Austin Podcast, as the emcee for Building Good Work Together on August 25!

In her role at Amplify, Stacy helps deliver fee-free banking to individuals and businesses across Texas. Through the Changing Austin podcast, she shines a light on the people, places, and stories that make Austin such a special city.

Long before her career in banking and storytelling, Stacy worked in the service industry. She credits those experiences with teaching her how to juggle competing priorities, navigate all kinds of personalities, and carry six wine glasses in one hand, a skill that still comes in handy today.

Most importantly, Stacy is a passionate supporter of Austin’s food and beverage community. An avid diner with restaurant and bar lists that rival a fantasy football roster, she knows that our local hospitality industry is a huge part of what makes Austin magical.

We can’t think of a better person to help us celebrate the restaurants, chefs, workers, and hospitality leaders who make our city thrive.

Building Good Work Together is Austin’s first awards celebration dedicated to honoring the good work behind our incredible food scene. From restaurant owners and chefs to front-of-house staff, kitchen teams, and industry advocates, we’re bringing the community together to recognize the people who make Austin one of the best food cities in the country.

Join Stacy and the Good Work Austin community for an unforgettable evening of food, drinks, connection, and celebration.

We have no shortage of awards celebrating great food.

But behind every memorable meal is a chef, server, bartender, manager, dishwasher, host, and owner who makes hospitality possible.

At Good Work Austin, we believe it's just as important to celebrate the people who are transforming our industry through mentorship, community impact, and a commitment to creating good jobs.

That's why we're thrilled to launch our first annual Building Good Work Together celebration on August 25.

This event is about recognizing and uplifting the individuals who make Austin's food and beverage community one of the best in the country.

In July, we'll open nominations for our inaugural awards, giving our community the opportunity to recognize their favorite hospitality professionals and the good work they're doing every day.

🎟️ Tickets go on sale June 15.

We can't wait to celebrate with you.

It was a busy week for Good Work Austin as we continued helping move the Austin-Travis County Food Plan from vision to action.

Our Executive Director, Kara Hanaoka, presented to the Austin-Travis County Food Policy Board on Good Work Austin's work to advance the Food Plan through initiatives like our Healthcare Access pilot and policy efforts that support living wages for food workers.

At the same time, our Program Director, Nitza Cuevas, facilitated discussions at the Food Plan Convening focused on strategies to better support food workers across our region. Bringing together people from across the food system, these conversations are critical to ensuring that community members are at the center of food system planning.

We're proud to work alongside community partners, business owners, workers, and public leaders to build a food system where workers can thrive, local businesses can succeed, and Austin's food scene remains strong for years to come.

Austin’s food workers are the backbone of our city’s culture and economy, yet too many go without health insurance.

We’re proud to see our Healthcare Access Pilot featured by K*T, highlighting the story of Thi Nguyen, a local baker who was able to access preventive care and health coverage through the program.

In partnership with Central Health, this pilot helps food workers enroll in affordable health insurance and removes barriers that have kept many from getting the care they need.

This is just the beginning. Early results are encouraging, and we’re continuing to advocate for long-term solutions that make healthcare more accessible for Austin’s food and beverage workforce.

Thank you to K*T for sharing these important stories and helping shine a light on the people who make Austin’s food scene possible.
