Once a quarter, our Good Work Austin team takes time to connect, celebrate our work, and support one of our amazing GWA member businesses. This time, we were so excited to visit KG BBQ!

From Egyptian-inspired barbecue to an incredible story of their owner Kareem El-Ghayesh behind the business, it was such a special experience for our team. So grateful to have creative, community-driven restaurants like KG BBQ as part of the Good Work Austin family.

Last Wednesday at our Rising Chef Showcase, we watched our culinary trainees receive their certificates after nine weeks of hard work and growth. The room was filled with the people who want to see them succeed, and you could feel it with every joyful tear shed.

We were honored to have Stacy Armijo of Amplify Credit Union, Perla Cavazos of Central Health, and Amanda Rohlich from the City of Austin share words of encouragement with our cohort. Their support reminded our graduates that the work they are doing matters far beyond this program.

The Menu? Our trainees designed, cooked, and served every single dish on that afternoon. Every bite was a reflection of the skills, creativity, and heart they poured into these nine weeks.

None of this happens without a village, and we are so grateful to ours. A huge thank you to Central Health, Texas Mutual Insurance, Amplify Credit Union, Sooch Foundation, Impact Austin, Austin Community Foundation, GFiber, H-E-B, and HeyHire for your continued investment in our trainees and in Austin's food workforce.

To our newest cohort of graduates and the future of the culinary workforce, we are so proud of you. Go show Austin what you've got. 🎓👨‍🍳

When we launched Good Work on the Menu, we immediately knew who we wanted as our very first partner: Scot Maitland of The Elevated Bear.

Scot does not just talk about community. He shows up for it. Guest lecturer at GWA's Specialty Day. The Giveback Gig. And when we came to him with a brand new program, he showed up for that too, donating 10% of every Print Club subscription to Good Work Austin.

This is what a true community partner looks like. Thank you to The Elevated Bear for showing up for local food and beverage workers.

At Good Work Austin, we build community through food.

We recently spent the day with the incredible team at Q2 for a volunteer event centered around connection, community, and supporting Austin’s local food scene.

Q2 employees enjoyed food from amazing Good Work Austin members including Chi’Lantro BBQ, Bambino, and Casey’s New Orleans Snowballs — each one representing the creativity and care that make Austin’s food scene so special.

We also shared more about our mission to support and uplift food and beverage workers through programs like our Culinary Workforce Training Program, which helps individuals facing barriers to employment build living-wage careers in the industry.

We’re incredibly grateful to Q2 for their continued partnership and investment in our work and our community. Experiences like this remind us that strong partnerships go far beyond funding. They help build a stronger ecosystem for Austin’s small businesses and workers.

Thank you, Q2, for showing up for our community. ❤️

As we wrap up our spring training cohort this week, we’re grateful to HeyHire for sponsoring Career Day for our Culinary Workforce Training Program.

HeyHire cares about hospitality workers landing roles that pay a living wage, and it shows in everything they do.

From building a platform that's easy to use, to sharing real, practical tips on how our trainees can stand out from other applicants. They show up in a way that will make a difference in the trajectory of the lives they touch.

And for our GWA member restaurants, HeyHire offers a discount to help find the right candidate for open roles. That's a win all around.

We're so grateful for this partnership and can't wait to see our graduates put it to work!

May 6th is coming fast, and we are not ready to let this one go quietly. When we launched Good Work On The Menu, we wanted to show Austin what it looks like when this community takes care of itself. Scot of The Elevated Bear has been doing that for years, showing up in our Culinary Workforce Training program as a guest lecturer, sharing his knowledge with the next generation of hospitality professionals here in Austin.

Now he is giving back again. Through May 6th, Scot is donating 10% of every Print Club subscription to Good Work Austin. The Print Club delivers beautifully designed non-alcoholic cocktail recipe cards straight to your mailbox every month. Craft NA drinks, built with real technique, arriving at your door. It is the gift that genuinely keeps on giving.

If you are still hunting for a Mother's Day gift, this is it. Something beautiful, something useful, something that also supports the people working hard to make Austin's restaurant industry better for everyone. Subscribe before May 6th and every dollar you spend does double duty.

Good Work Austin's Culinary Workforce Training program is about more than building kitchen skills-it’s about creating pathways to employment and connecting our trainees directly with local restaurants.

Our trainees took part in Career Day, where they met with 10+ local employers—owners, GMs, and HR leaders—who showed up ready to connect! It was a chance for our trainees to share their experience, goals, and passion, and for businesses to meet some incredibly talented, dedicated folks.

Huge thank you to the restaurants and partners who joined us:
Bambino, L’Oca d’Oro, Firewild, Gati, Thai Fresh, ThoroughFare, Mexta, Three Chicks Soulfood, Rosen’s Bagels, Epoch Coffee, and New Waterloo Hospitality.
