Early Beginnings
K9’s Healing Hearts, L.L.C. organization, once fully operational, will place trained service dogs and emotional support dogs with autistic individuals and others in need. This service will be provided at no cost to the families. Our organization will collaborate with professional dog trainers, breeders and veterinarian services to insure the families receive healthy, qualified dogs to enrich their daily life and provide companionship. Why? Because we see the need.
My husband, Pete, and I have seven grandchildren between us. The vision and purpose grew out of our personal experience of raising dogs through the years and feeling the unconditional love they give. Our sixteen-year-old grandson, Kai, has Aspersers. He has always struggled with large crowds, loud noises and social settings which cause him anxiety and can lead to emotional outbursts. When this happened, we noticed how our Golden Retriever, Sundance, was usually able to calm him down. That got us thinking about getting him his own dog. Our hope was shattered when we discovered the exorbitant cost of a fully trained service dog. It just wasn’t an option for us. Instead, we decided to get him a puppy and hire a trainer. Christmas of 2014, my husband and I got the go ahead from his mom and dad. We got the privilege of purchasing a Goldendoodle for Kai and his family. They named her Holly, which was fitting, since it was Christmas. She has been a wonderful blessing for Kai and his family.
