The latest Free Health Care Day was held at the Kolomiseed Health Center on March 4, 2022, co-sponsored by The Mother Maryam Foundation and the Faculty of Medicine University of Dongola. The Clinic was open all day that Friday, with free testing, treatment, and medications. The clinic’s usual staff was joined by ten volunteer medical specialists from the provincial capital of Dongola. These included a gastrointestinal specialist; an orthopedist; a wounds specialist; an ear, nose, and throat specialist; a pediatrician; a gynecologist / obstetrician; an ophthalmologist; an optometrist; and a psychiatrist. A team vaccinated against COVID-19.

We are pleased to share many exciting facility and service improvements of the maternity section of the Kolomiseed Health Center.

Dr. Omda, Dean of the Faculty of medicine-university of Dongola and Kolomiseed Health Center Supervisor, in cooperation with the Director of Primary Health Care at the Dongola Provincial Ministry of Health, because of Mr. Ronald Cheng's initiative and sponsorship, have raised the status of the Kolomiseed Health Center to Model Clinic for the region.

As a Model Clinic, the Kolomiseed Health Center will implement the following:

1) Reproductive Health Service, including pregnancy monitoring; provision of folic acid and other supplements; and family planning and birth spacing.
2) Child Development and Child Nutrition Service.
3) Healthy Childhood Service, including medicine and supplements for children up to 5 years.
4) Immunization Service.
5) Public Health Education Service, including posters and educational materials for general family health improvements.

We are deeply grateful for all the support of our community to make this a reality.

We did it! With your donations, we sent $10,000 worth of oxygen tanks to the Covid-19 Isolation Center in Dongola and 26 other hospitals in Sudan.

In early February, Ms. Amna Osman and Dr. Nada Fadul (of the Saraya Organization and SudanNextGen) informed us that the Dongola Covid-19 Isolation Center had run out of its supplemental oxygen supply, which resulted in patient deaths.

With your help, Mother Maryam Foundation raised funds and sent $10,000 to buy oxygen tanks. Our representatives in Dongola are distributing 50 oxygen tanks to the Covid-19 Isolation Center and 26 other hospitals and rural clinics in the area, all the way from Halfa to al-Golid.

We need your help! The Isolation Center for COVID-19 patients in Dongola, Sudan has run out of lifesaving oxygen tanks for its high-risk patients. At this time, the center has resorted to using industrial oxygen tanks that are not designed for medical use.

Our goal is to buy 60 medical oxygen cylinders at $200 each. The Mother Maryam Foundation will accelerate your gift by matching up to $6,000 in total donations. Any amount makes a big difference in helping us save lives. 100% of your contribution will go directly to the isolation center.

Salaam from Texas! We wanted to share an exciting update on the Kolomiseed Elementary school in Az-Zawrat. The Mother Maryam Foundation supplied funds and the community came together to build a new wall and an entrance (a Nubian Gate) around the school. We are hoping to duplicate the same community efforts to include all 3 elementary schools in the village this year. We are now in the process of sending funds to build a wall and entrance at the central elementary school in the village (Central Zawrat School). Once the central school is complete, we will also send funds and complete the wall and entrance for the north school (North Zawrat School).

We want to thank everyone of the Az-Zawrat Village community who came together to complete this project and to our donors who helped make this possible. Special thanks to the women of Kolomiseed for doing a FANTASTIC JOB painting the wall and the gate!

Mother Maryam Foundation and the Health Clinic have implemented a campaign to treat malaria and also to combat its spread. The Health Clinic treats malaria with the latest artemisinin based medications and provides mosquito bed nets to newborns and families in need. To help combat mosquitoes, volunteers spray with permethrin the walls of all homes, schools, community centers, outhouses, and animal pens and they spray oil on the irrigation canals and standing water against larvae.

The Anti-malaria Campaign has been funded by: a memorial to Irene V. Boxberger; Dr. Abdelaziz Osman; South Austin, Downtown Austin, and Westlake Rotary Clubs; James B. and Lois R. Archer Foundation; AESA Prep Academy; and many individual donors.
