Thank you to Gloria Vera-Bedolla, candidate for Del Valle ISD Trustee, for joining our Central Texas Building Trades Council meeting this morning!

We appreciated hearing about her focus on preparing the next generation for successful careers, expanding access to skilled trades training, and supporting Registered Apprenticeship programs.

Connecting our schools with the building trades creates real opportunities for young people to earn while they learn and build family-sustaining careers. Thanks, Gloria, for taking the time to visit with us!

Yesterday, the Don’t DOGE Our Austin Coalition, led by our brothers and sisters at Austin AFSCME Local 1624 as well as 40 progressive organizations from across Austin, kicked off our campaign against Prop I. Prop I is led by the conservative group Save Austin Now, and when they say "affordability," what they mean is cuts to our most needed services. They would cut crossing guards or women's health to save five cents. Vote NO on Prop I! Don’t DOGE Our Austin!

Great turnout and important conversations at today's Contractor Roundtable hosted by the Texas Building and Construction Trades Council Health Foundation, in partnership with the Central Texas Building Trades Council and the Associated General Contractors (AGC) Austin Chapter.

Mental health, su***de prevention, and substance abuse are serious challenges facing the construction industry, and addressing them requires all of us working together.

Today marked an important first for Texas, bringing union construction trades and the contracting community together to have honest conversations, share resources, and identify real solutions to better support the workers who build our communities.

A special thank you to Austin Chapter AGC for hosting, LIUNA Local 1095 - Laborers' Union for sponsoring lunch, and everyone who joined us and contributed to the discussion.

This is just the beginning. By working together, we can break down the stigma, strengthen support systems, and make sure construction workers know they are never alone and that help is available.

Central Texas Building Trades is proud to endorse Austin Propositions A & B and the investments they would make in the public spaces and facilities our communities rely on. Together, the propositions would provide $295 million for parks, recreation facilities and public libraries, including improvements to recreation and senior centers, pools, trails, playscapes, park infrastructure and library facilities. These are investments in the places where families gather, kids play, seniors stay active and communities connect—and they also represent real construction and infrastructure work in our community. Propositions A & B will appear on Austin’s ballot on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
