Today, members of the Central Texas Building Trades Council were proud to attend and participate in the Texas Construction Career Pathwways MC3 graduation, recognizing a talented group of students who have taken an important first step toward careers in the union building trades.

Programs like MC3 help connect individuals with opportunities in registered apprenticeship programs and the skilled trades, creating pathways to family-sustaining careers while helping meet the growing workforce needs of our industry. The future of the building trades depends on investing in the next generation of skilled workers, and it was inspiring to see so much enthusiasm and potential in this graduating class.

Congratulations to all of the graduates on this achievement. We wish you success as you continue your journey and look forward to welcoming many of you into apprenticeship programs and careers across the Central Texas Building Trades. We need your help. Weeks ago, after contract negotiations with Keolis stalled, CapMetro/Keolis workers voted 99.5% in favor of authorizing a strike (if necessary). Keolis, a French-owned company, operates services for CapMetro as a subcontractor.

Here’s the thing: CapMetro board members are trying to pass the buck onto Keolis, their subcontractor, instead of taking care of the workers who make our community run! Can you stand with workers and take two minutes to send a message NOW to these elected officials?

More than 75% of CapMetro workers cannot afford to live in the city of Austin where they work. Workers are demanding a fair contract that includes regular wage increases, better training, and adequate time off.

Keolis/CapMetro have offered a one-time stipend, but that won’t pay the rent. Help us send a message to the Austin elected officials on the CapMetro board: YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO CALL THE SHOTS: STAND WITH WORKERS!

We need Travis County Commissioner Jeff Travillion and Austin City Council Members Paige Ellis, Zo Qadri, and Chito Vela to take action. Can you add your name to stand in solidarity with these union workers?

🚧 Major Win for Austin Workers and Infrastructure 🚧

The Central Texas Building Trades Council is proud to announce that Labor and Endeavor Real Estate Group have reached a workforce agreement for the public infrastructure associated with the proposed Dog’s Head Development.

This agreement ensures that TIRZ-funded infrastructure investments will support prevailing wages, OSHA safety training, workers’ compensation coverage, Registered Apprenticeships, partnership with the Austin Infrastructure Academy, and ensuring the hiring of responsible contractors.

Austin’s growth should create opportunities for the workers who build our community. This agreement demonstrates that economic development, workforce development, and strong labor standards can go hand in hand.

We appreciate Endeavor, Mayor Kirk Watson, the Austin City Council, and all stakeholders who worked together to make this agreement possible.

Good jobs. Strong communities. A better Austin.
