APMA's Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) is a fantastic opportunity to join a cohort of like-minded colleagues in developing skills to sustain a lifetime of professional involvement and service to the profession. This program was designed to provide members who graduated from podiatric medical school within the past 10 years with both the tools and training to transform themselves into leaders. The ELP cohort will learn from professional development experts, collaborate with veteran mentors on critical policy issues, and be provided with meaningful opportunities to influence legislation and advocate for the profession. Applications will be accepted through June 1 for the 2026–27 cohort, and the program will begin in August at APMA's 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting (The National)!

A recent study in JAMA Network Open provides important insights into diabetic lower extremity wound care. Analyzing over 700,000 Medicare cases, the researchers found that a higher regional supply of podiatrists is associated with significantly fewer major amputations.
These findings underscore the unique impact of podiatric expertise in improving patient outcomes and the importance of ensuring access to this specialized care.

APMA Government Affairs Committee member Dr. Samuel Gorelik recently attended a local town hall to meet with Representative Seth Moulton (D-MA). During their meeting, Dr. Gorelik highlighted the critical importance of H.R. 7905/S. 4070, the Diabetes Foot Health Access and Modernization Act.
The impact was immediate: Rep. Moulton officially signed on as a cosponsor the very next day. When podiatrists share their clinical experience directly with lawmakers, it becomes the most effective tool we have for advancing the profession's top legislative priorities.
