When Germany calls, GTHS Answers.

One of the coolest moments surrounding Germany's World Cup opener happened before the match even kicked off.

When someone you know is connected to the German broadcast team and needs authentic Texas cowboy hats for their World Cup coverage, they knew exactly who to call.

GTHS to the rescue!

Within less of 24 hours, cowboy hats were in the hands of:

Thomas Müller — FC Bayern München legend

Jürgen Klopp — renowned coach of Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool FC, and 1. FSV Mainz 05

Johannes B. Kerner — one of Germany's most recognizable sports broadcasters

It's a reminder that GTHS has become much more than a heritage organization. We serve as a bridge between Germany and Texas connecting people, culture, businesses, education, sports, and community.

🇩🇪⚽ What a Fantastic Opening Day for Germany at the World Cup! ⚽🇩🇪

Germany kicked off its World Cup campaign in style, and German-Texans across Central Texas showed up in force to celebrate.

Scholz Garten(Austin): 400+ attendees
Krause's Cafe(New Braunfels): 75+ attendees

Both venues were packed with supporters cheering on Die Mannschaft as Germany opened the tournament with an impressive performance.

This was just the beginning.

Summer Camp Fun at GTHS!

What does summer look like at the German-Texan Heritage Society?

Every day is filled with hands-on activities, creativity, language learning, and plenty of fun as our campers experience German language and culture in an engaging and interactive environment.

From cooking and crafts to games, songs, and cultural activities, our summer camps are designed to inspire curiosity, build confidence, and create lasting memories.

Most importantly, it's wonderful to see children learning, laughing, and discovering something new while connecting with German language.

A big thank you to our German International School of Texas teachers who help make these experiences possible.

The smiles say it all. 😊

A few years ago, the German-Texan Heritage Society (GTHS) had fewer than 300 members. Our membership was declining.

Today, we are on the verge of surpassing 1,000 members.

Take a moment and think about that. Amazing!

At a time when many heritage organizations across America are shrinking, the German-Texan community in Texas is growing.

This didn't happen by accident. It didn't happen overnight. And it didn't happen because we simply hoped things would improve.

We made deliberate strategic decisions to reverse the trend. We expanded programs, invested in language education, modernized our approach, built new partnerships, reached new audiences, welcomed younger and wiser generations, and focused on creating value for members and the broader community.

We chose growth.

Together, we have:

-Grown from fewer than 300 members to nearly 1,000 members
- Built one of the largest German language programs in Texas
- Created a thriving German Immersion School serving students from Pre-K through 5th grade
- Produced major cultural events attracting thousands annually
- Preserved and restored the historic German Free School, now more than 169 years old
- Hosted German government, business, and cultural leaders from around the world
- Built meaningful bridges between Texas and Germany
-Created a community that spans generations

And we're just getting started.

Because GTHS isn't our society.

GTHS is your society.

Whether your family arrived in Texas in the 1840s, came from Germany last year, or simply appreciates German culture, there is a place for you here.

For those in the New Braunfels area - what a great way for kids to spend some time learning about German Texan history in the heart of New Braunfels

Summer Camp at the Sophienburg is right around the corner.

From July 7th to 9th, campers will dive into New Braunfels history through hands‑on projects, language learning, storytelling, and creative activities that spark curiosity about the past.

It’s a fun and engaging way for young learners to explore the stories, artifacts, and traditions that shaped our community.
