Austin, we need your help! 📢

We have boxes and boxes of diapers ready to be sorted and delivered to local child care centers, and we’re looking for volunteers to lend a hand.

Our diaper drives are a simple, low-effort way to support families and early childhood educators in our community. Volunteers sort diapers by size, choose a participating child care center, and deliver them directly where they’re needed most.

We’re so happy Becca could take time to talk about the STEP (Support for Thriving Employees Program) with y’all! This program is helping Central Texas families grow their income without falling off the “benefits cliff” and helping employers better support and retain workers along the way.

STEP is designed for ALICE families – Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed – households that are working but still struggling to keep up with the real cost of living. The benefits cliff happens when even a small income increase causes the loss of public benefits like SNAP or housing assistance. The value of their new income is less than the value of their benefits, leaving them with fewer resources right when they’re trying to get ahead.

STEP helps bridge that gap so more families can confidently pursue career growth and better opportunities, which also helps employers build a stronger, more stable workforce.

Read more about the program and why we’re excited about its impact on our blog with the link in bio!

Gathering for Good 2026 was one for the books.🩷

Last Thursday, nearly 300 people gathered in one room with a shared belief: when children and families have the support they need, our entire community is stronger because of it.

That beautiful sunny morning was filled with honest conversations, moving stories, laughter across tables, and powerful reminders that child care impacts every corner of our lives. It shapes our workforce, our economy, our futures, and the opportunities available to families across Central Texas.

To everyone who attended, donated, bought raffle tickets, stopped to connect with someone new, or simply showed up ready to support this mission: THANK YOU SO MUCH! Your support creates a Central Texas where more children enter Kindergarten ready to learn and more families can thrive.

A huge thank you again to this year’s incredible co-chairs and speakers for leading such a meaningful afternoon:
✨ Kate Powers
✨ Scott Powers
✨ Denise Davis
✨ Maria Dominguez
✨ Denisse Baldwin
✨ Amy Green-Hinojosa
✨ Cherry Mendoza
✨ Ingrid Taylor

Lastly, a big thank you to our catering sponsor, , for keeping everyone fueled with beautiful, fresh, salads throughout the afternoon!

Still feeling inspired by the energy in the room or didn’t have a chance to attend? There’s still time to make an impact. Donate today or learn more about joining Women United to help continue building opportunities for children and families across Central Texas with the link in bio!

Austin’s segregation wasn’t accidental. It was planned.

Your zip code can shape your access to housing, education, healthcare, transportation, and opportunity and in our city of Austin, many of those divides trace back to the 1928 Austin Master Plan, which forced Black and Brown residents into East Austin by concentrating resources and services east of East Avenue (now I-35).

The effects are still felt today through displacement, unequal development, and barriers to opportunity across the city.

If learning this enrages you, unsettles you, or makes you want to better understand the city we live in, we invite you to join the conversation.

Join us on May 19 at 12 PM for a Lunch & Learn with Dr. Lila Valencia, Demographer for the City of Austin, as we explore how historic segregation shaped Austin’s racial and geographic landscape and how current demographic trends, population growth, immigration patterns, displacement, and unequal development continue to reinforce long-standing disparities across the region.

Understanding how we got here is essential to understanding where Austin is headed next.
This is one of our most important Lunch & Learns yet and one of the most important conversations happening in Austin today. Register for free with the link in bio!

A special thanks to our sources:
