Today is International Day of Sign Languages!

Sign languages are more than a way to communicate. They carry our culture, our identity, our stories, and our communities.

For Deaf and Hard of Hearing people, language access also means having the ability to understand information, make informed decisions, and fully participate in the world around us.

At Deaf SHARE, we believe access should never be an afterthought — especially when someone is seeking safety, support, or healing.

Today, we celebrate sign languages, Deaf communities, and our right to communicate in the language that works best for us.

“The nervous system after abuse”

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Many of you already talk about this topic, but do we talk enough about what the nervous system can do to you?

Abuse can train your body to believe peace is dangerous.

You start explaining yourself too much
You panic when your phone vibrates
You get anxious when someone is upset
Rest makes you feel guilty
You read people’s mood to stay safe

That’s what survival mode can do to your nervous system.

Tips:

Stop apologizing for needing space
Rest without explaining yourself
Learn the difference between peace and isolation
Let your body experience quiet safely

Healing can feel uncomfortable when your body is used to chaos. You deserve harmony.
