🚨 Important COVNA Tree Alert 🚨
Oak wilt was recently identified at a COVNA-area residence and professionally treated earlier this week.
We wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone just how serious oak wilt is in Central Texas. One improper trimming job, poorly timed cut, or unqualified tree service can potentially impact many surrounding trees and permanently change the character of our neighborhood.
Please DO NOT trim, prune, or cut oak trees during this high-risk time of year.
Fresh cuts attract beetles that can spread oak wilt from infected trees to healthy ones. Experts recommend avoiding pruning oak trees from February through June unless absolutely necessary.
If emergency tree work is needed:
✔️ Use a certified arborist familiar with oak wilt prevention
✔️ Immediately paint all fresh cuts/wounds
✔️ Avoid moving or storing infected oak firewood
Our trees are one of the things that make this neighborhood so special. In fact, preserving and protecting our beautiful oak canopy is the very reason COVNA was founded back in 1983.
We also have tree care and oak wilt prevention resources available from TreeFolks. If anyone would like copies or needs help finding a trusted resource, please reach out. We are happy to help.
