Austin Scenic Co-op

Austin Scenic Co-op You walk the boards, we provide them. WHAT IS THE SCENIC CO-OP? AND WHY? The Austin Scenic Co-op is a shared “set” resource co-operative. Whats not to love?

It is an organization dedicated to reducing the waste, cost and labor involved with stage productions by means of storing reusable, donated set elements and renting them out at affordable rates. Using the Co-op keeps your material budget costs down. Using the Co-op makes you an eco-friendly artist. The co-op will take set resources being donated on a case-by-case basis (depending on storage space

available and condition of items)

WHAT DOES IT COST? The co-op is currently a cheap per-piece rental and soon will have memberships and other ways of earning "access credit"

In the next few months we will be calling a community meeting to discuss membership levels. We want to work with the community on finding a way to help support the co-ops longevity and sustainability as well as continue to make sets affordable. HOW DOES IT WORK? If you are looking for flats, lumber, or set pieces contact Zac or Eliot to make an appointment to come and look at the stock or pick something up. If you are looking for space to build also contact Zac or Eliot to schedule a time with them. Regular co-op hours will be weekends 1-5pm. If you are looking to make a set donation contact Connor. If you have any administrative concerns, ideas about improving our services, or ideas on grants that we might be able to apply for, or partnerships that we may be able to make please contact Jenny. I got to experience CABAREX: RevoLUZiones by Proyecto Teatro at the The VORTEX tonight and now I remember why I chose art over the other ways to influence society. Nobody left that show unchanged, whether it was because they'd never seen their own experience platformed or because they were given the chance to see things from a very different perspective. It was the funniest, most joyful and depressing, thoughtful, inspiring thing. The sort of thing that makes me want to try to make good art, too.

Hi Friends,

Here at the Co-op, we have a new initiative we would like to announce to help theater-makers during the pandemic.

It's been a while since we posted. Like everyone else, we've been trying to figure out what theater is right now, and how it can adapt and prosper in this new paradigm we're living in.

We've seen a lot of great stuff that has been produced, and are looking forward to all the great work that comes out of this, but we've also been trying to figure out how we can contribute to this work and help creators in this financially-uncertain time.

To this end, we are happy to announce that we are now offering audio setups to help companies who are producing online that may not have enough equipment for all of their performers or participants. We now have three Blue Yeti microphone setups, including stands, boom arms and pop filters. Two are USB only, one is USB/XLR. The audio quality is great, and we'd love to help enhance your work. We also have a number of Mac Minis available if your production needs to record audio with low-noise computers.

We are currently also working on sourcing webcams, but those are a little harder to find at this point. We'll send out a note when we have more info.

If you would be interested in borrowing this equipment, drop us a line! We continue to be dedicated to our mission to aiding theater companies and non-profit events through maintaining an inventory of re-usable materials and equipment.

Stay Safe!
Zac

Hi Friends,

We have a few more new things we'll be talking about this week, but today I wanted to remind everyone about what we have in our rental inventory to help make your show go!

We have good-sized inventory of 4x8 platforms, with some legs in standard heights. We also have 4x8 flats, including a couple of door flats, and a few varied doors.

Technology-wise, we have a number of Mac Minis with Qlab installed and full licenses available. We also have an ETC Nomad with laptop for on-the-go lighting control.

Anything we don’t have, we’ll be glad to point you towards someone who might. Drop us a line at [email protected]!

Hi Friends!

Long time no talk, huh? The Co-op has been silently chugging along the last few years, helping 40+ events and shows reduce their costs by providing re-used and re-purposed materials, and affordably renting out scenic elements and show technology. This year we’re looking to some more growing with new initiatives and partnerships!

We’ll be rolling things out over the next few weeks on FB and with e-mail blasts, so watch this space. Today though, we are announcing the first of our new programs, the Co-op Materials Pantry.

Have you recently (or not so recently) had a strike or a purge where you had to throw away materials that were perfectly good but you were out of space for? The Materials Pantry goal is to consolidate those materials for re-use in future shows and events, reducing waste and helping save on new material costs.

Using this service is easy. 1. Contact us at [email protected] and we’ll set up a time to meet. 2. Pick out what would be useful for your show, and we’ll provide a small suggested donation amount (mostly to keep the lights on and the wood dry). 3. Once your show or event is done, please bring back any useful materials from your show to return or contribute to the inventory.

Thanks for following us, we’re really excited about the upcoming year for the Co-op and would love to hear more about what your needs are that we can support.

Thanks!
