Dr. Rubeliz Bolivar Barrios is home!
After more than 32 days in federal detention, our colleague and TCEP/ACEP member, Dr. Bolivar Barrios, has been released and reunited with her family. From the moment she was detained on April 11, TCEP and American College of Emergency Physicians - ACEP worked together to advocate tirelessly for her release by coordinating with her legal team, her residency colleagues, EMRA, and members of Congress.
As TCEP President Dr. Bryan Dunn said, "This is what sustained and effective advocacy looks like." The combined voices of our emergency medicine community made a real difference.
Dr. Bolivar Barrios held a valid work permit, served patients in one of the most underserved regions in the country, and never stopped being one of us. We are grateful she will soon be back caring for her patients in the Rio Grande Valley.
