The Lion Dance team is a non-profit organization composed of students from kindergarten through college. The team's focus is to develop confidence and leadership skills amongst the students and offer cultural awareness to the community. The team has grown to include students of all ethnicities as long as they have the passion, enthusiasm, and motivation. The Lion Dance team have performed around A
ustin at weddings, multicultural events, festivals, and businesses during Chinese New Year. All the proceeds from the performances go directly to the Walnut Creek Vietnamese Foundation who supports the Lion Dance team as well as the Vietnamese Bilingual Program. The Foundation provides scholarship funds for students who display leadership and continue to support the Vietnamese Bilingual Program. With the influx of new members with no prior Lion Dancing experience, we
cultivated their enthusiasm and brought to them a sense of purpose. The
art of Lion Dancing is by no means a small feat, but with patience and a calm
demeanor anyone can lend themselves to the guidance and training needed to dance with the team. With the team's encouragement and dedication, team members, old and new, unite together as friends and as a community, to bring to the public a spectacular show displaying their art, culture, and traditions. Lion dancing has had an unmeasurable influence on the community, providing bonds that only Lion Dancing can bring.
