Gloria Chandler was an American record producer and entrepreneur who founded Gloria Chandler Recordings, Inc. in the 1940s focused on producing educational recordings. Her catalog centered on spoken-word and instructional titles created specifically for schools, libraries, and institutions—content designed to be pressed, distributed, and archived on disc. These releases became part of the broader educational LP movement, when records were widely used as teaching tools in classrooms across the United States. She was not only participating in recording sessions—she was overseeing the creation, manufacturing, and dissemination of physical records intended for long-term institutional use.

Hazel Yarwood was one of the early women disc cutting engineers working at EMI’s Abbey Road Studios in London at a pivotal moment in recorded sound history. Beginning around 1950, she worked in the cutting rooms as the industry transitioned from 78 rpm shellac discs to the newly emerging 33⅓ rpm LP format. As a cutting engineer, she operated disc-cutting lathes that translated recorded audio into physical grooves on lacquers. Her work took place during a period when EMI was expanding its LP production and refining high-fidelity recording practices.
