Interfaith Action of Central Texas - iACT

Interfaith Action of Central Texas - iACT People of all faiths doing good together. We believe the work of bridging the faith divides of our community is not just a “nice” thing to do – it is essential.

Interfaith Action of Central Texas exists to build healthy relationships between the faith communities of Central Texas. Any honest assessment of the threats to our children’s future would take into account the very real possibility of interfaith conflict. But, while the threat is global – our response must also be local. We believe that the work of “cultivating peace and respect” cannot be left t

o diplomats anddignitaries – we, the faithful, have to play a leading role. We invite all good-hearted people to join us in this work. You may be Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Baha’i, Unitarian, Sikh, secular, or simply a spiritual seeker – but your voice, your talents, and your commitment will be welcomed by the iACT community. We believe that a future of peace and respect begins with you – and that together we can all be the “i” in iACT… our individual actions can and will make a difference – join us as we cultivate peace and respect through interfaith dialogue, service, and celebration!

This week's Dose of Hope is provided by Simone Talma Flowers, Executive Director at iACT. In her reflection on iACT's community of leaders, she shares, "What gives me hope is knowing that iACT has never been built by one person. It has always been sustained by a community of leaders who answer the call to serve." Read this week's Dose of Hope here - https://mailchi.mp/interfaithtexas/the-daily-dose-of-hope-302

Earlier this week, iACT welcomed back former Board Presidents for our first President’s Circle gathering since 2018. 💙

These leaders helped shape iACT’s vision across decades of service, guiding our work through seasons of growth, challenge, and community impact. Their leadership laid the foundation for so much of what iACT continues to be today.

We are deeply grateful for the time, wisdom, and care each of them has given to this organization and to the Central Texas community. It was a joy to reconnect, reflect, and celebrate the lasting legacy of their leadership together.

Eid al-Adha Mubarak to all who are celebrating! 🌙

Known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” Eid al-Adha is one of the most significant holidays in Islam, commemorating the story of Prophet Ibrahim’s faith, devotion, and willingness to serve God. The holiday also marks the culmination of Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca and one of the five pillars of Islam, as millions of Muslims around the world gather in worship and reflection.

Eid al-Adha is celebrated through prayer, generosity, shared meals, and caring for neighbors and those in need. As our Muslim neighbors and friends celebrate with loved ones, we wish our community a joyful and peaceful Eid filled with reflection, connection, and hope.

A Call to Action

A message from Interfaith Action of Central Texas (iACT) To Those Who Hold Public Office:

Interfaith Action of Central Texas (iACT) is an organization rooted in the belief that peace is possible when we choose respect, understanding, and compassion for one another. Through interfaith dialogue, service, and celebration, we work every day to cultivate communities where people of all backgrounds and beliefs feel seen, valued, and connected.

We believe in the strength and beauty of our shared humanity. Our diversity is not a weakness—it is one of our greatest gifts. The many cultures, faiths, traditions, and life experiences that make up our communities offer wisdom, resilience, and hope. We are truly a community of communities.

That is why we are deeply saddened by the hateful rhetoric, division, and violence increasingly directed toward vulnerable communities. Hate-filled language does not exist in isolation—it fuels fear, dehumanization, and harm. It increases antisemitism, Islamophobia, xenophobia, racism, and hostility toward those who are perceived as different. When public discourse becomes rooted in blame, fear, and division, communities suffer, trust erodes, and violence becomes more possible.

We ask those who hold positions of leadership and influence to speak with care, responsibility, and compassion. Let your words be rooted in love rather than fear. Let them build bridges instead of deepening divides. Let them uplift the people and communities that together make up the great state of Texas.

When you speak, remember that children are listening. Teenagers are listening. Families, elders, and future generations are listening. Your words carry weight far beyond a moment or a headline.

Speak boldly about our shared humanity and our interconnectedness. Remind us that when we work together, we are stronger. Speak words of kindness, because kindness inspires people to act with dignity and compassion. Speak words of love, because love has the power to heal wounded hearts and bring people together.

In this moment, and in this age, we need more voices planting seeds of love—not seeds of hatred, fear, or division.

Let us remember that words can either tear people apart or help build a more compassionate world. May the words we choose be grounded in humanity, justice, humility, and love.

So please, when you speak, when you act, and when you write, remember: we are helping shape the world future generations will inherit. Let us build one that knows love.

A message from Interfaith Action of Central Texas (iACT) To Our Muslim Community:

Our hearts are deeply saddened by the devastating news from San Diego. We mourn with you in the wake of this horrific violence at the Islamic Center of San Diego and the increasing Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hatred leading to fear that so many in your community continue to endure.

There is something especially heartbreaking when a sacred space—a place of prayer, peace, and belonging—is violated by violence. Faith communities should be places of refuge, not fear. It makes it even worse after learning about the three victims and their selfless sacrifice. They and their families are in our prayers.

Please know that you are not alone. We stand with you in grief, in outrage, and in love. We are weary of lives being lost to hatred. We are weary of the cruelty and division that continue to wound our communities. We are weary that people fail to see the full humanity and sacred worth in one another.

But even in this sorrow, we recommit ourselves to something greater. We will continue to choose love over fear, compassion over division, and peace over violence. We will continue to speak out against hatred in all its forms and work toward a community where everyone is safe, valued, and deeply welcomed.

You are beloved in this community, and we are grateful for your presence, your engagement, your contributions, your faith, your leadership, and the many ways you enrich our shared human family.

We know that violence and hatred affect us all. Our bodies, hearts, and spirits remember pain. They remember fear. They remember loss. And because of this, we cannot become numb or silent.

Today, we declare love, healing, courage, and a reckoning of the heart—a call to boldly love, boldly welcome, and boldly show kindness to one another.

May peace surround you. May comfort hold you. May love guide us all.

In prayer and solidarity,
Amen

Trees do more than cool our neighborhoods—they create healthier, more connected communities. 🌳

Branches of Faith, an initiative with A Rocha USA, is offering free trees, training, and environmental education to faith-based communities located in identified tree canopy deserts. Grounded in environmental justice, this initiative is designed to support congregations already engaged in reflection, service, and collective action in their communities.

Join them for an informational workshop on May 30 at Triumphant Love Lutheran Church to learn more about how your faith community can get involved.
