Juneteenth marks the day news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

That delay is part of why the day matters. Freedom and justice have not come equally or easily, and honoring this history means continuing the work.

For CRNAs and SRNAs, that work includes expanding access to safe anesthesia care, listening to the communities we serve, and advocating for systems that respect every patient's dignity.

Today, we reflect and recommit to a Texas where access, opportunity, and respect reach every community.

From light sedation to deep anesthesia, Texas dental patients can count on certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) to deliver safe, closely monitored careβ€”right in the dental office. 🦷

CRNAs bring critical care experience and graduate-level anesthesia training to dental sedation, managing pain and complex airways from start to finish. They stay at your side the entire procedure: monitoring vitals, adjusting care, and advocating for your safety, especially for higher-risk or anxious patients who need extra support.

Next dental procedure calls for sedation? See if a CRNA is part of your care team. πŸ’™

Welcome back to !

This week, meet Jessica Gaines, DNP, CRNA, an educator with UTMB's DNP Nurse Anesthesia Program and practicing CRNA at St. Luke's Patients Medical Center. For Jessica, the most rewarding part of this profession is twofold: shaping future nurse anesthetists and making a direct impact on safe, compassionate patient care. 🩺

Through TxANA, Jessica has served as a director and on several key committees, finding mentors, collaborators, and a community that has fueled her growth as a leader. She loves cheering on her students from the classroom and sim lab all the way to graduation day, and she lives by the mantra: "Dream big. Work hard. Make it happen." ✨

Outside of work, Jessica is learning to cook (one new recipe at a time!) and has fallen in love with pickleball as a way to move and meet new people.

Jessica, thank you for inspiring and investing in the next generation of Texas CRNAs. We're proud you're part of this community.

Not every CRNA works in an OR. 🩺

Some of us work in exam rooms, infusion chairs, and procedure suites β€” bringing the same assessment skills, pharmacology expertise, and vigilance to a different pace of care.

Clinic life means seeing patients over time, adjusting plans visit by visit, and watching how anesthesia and pain decisions play out in daily life.

Made the switch from hospital to clinic? What surprised you most? πŸ’¬

Ketamine therapy is growing fast, and CRNAs are uniquely prepared to deliver it. 🧠

As advanced practice nurses with graduate-level training in pharmacology, patient monitoring, and complex pain pathways, CRNAs bring the clinical depth ketamine therapy demands. That matters for patients managing chronic pain, treatment-resistant mood disorders, and conditions where other options haven't worked.

In outpatient clinics, CRNAs take thorough histories, carefully titrate infusions, monitor patients closely throughout treatment, and build opioid-sparing plans focused on safety, function, and quality of life.

When your community talks ketamine and innovative pain care, CRNAs belong at the table. πŸ’¬
