Sunrise staff member Sair helps coach people’s housing journeys fluently in both English and Spanish every day, but sometimes even he needs a translator. Pets also experience homelessness and, thanks to amazing partner pet orgs, pet food donors, service animal certifications and pet deposits we help out with, we help them off the streets alongside their owners! 🐶 🏠

Gunter knew he needed help getting tech-savvy-enough to get and keep a job in 2026, so he enrolled in Sunrise’s Learn & Earn tech/resume classes and was the recipient of a new laptop for his new job!

Income generation is a topic we discuss with every client who we talk to because waiting for months or years on lists for housing is far less of a sure thing than taking charge yourself. More skills, more income, less homelessness. 💻💰🏠

Early intervention saves lives, in healthcare & in homelessness. At Sunrise, our goal is to house as many people as possible as quickly as possible. So when someone is ready to get to work, we roll up our sleeves and get to work. 💪

The majority of housing programs in Austin have a 12-months-homeless minimum, but waiting 12 months can cost someone and their family everything, so we triage and move as fast as our clients can to identify solutions. So many of them are ready to make something happen and we are there to coach them. If you are a teacher, doctor, librarian, jail warden, property manager, family member or anyone else that encounters people at the beginning of their homelessness journey, encourage them to take action as quickly as possible. It might just save their life.

Sunrise’s Hotline is available 12 hours a day to coach them to the next best thing.

With a phone our clients can schedule appointments, call our hotline for assistance, search for jobs, and be reached by the people and services trying to help them. It also means reconnecting with loved ones and simply knowing what day it is. These are luxuries many of us take for granted. It isn’t always about the big things like deposits, rent, and utilities. A phone might seem small in comparison, but it can open a whole new door for someone experiencing homelessness.

We found Sarah in front of the P. Terry's Burger Stand and Frost Bank on 7th Street, pregnant and in the throes of addiction. Our team walked with her through shelter, rehab, setbacks, giving birth and this month she finally moved into her own place - clean, sober and ready for her new lease on life!

Every person’s exit from homelessness will look different and have unpredictable twists & turns, but the essential part is a solid, steady support system. For thousands of people across Central Texas, that support system that can be always counted on is Sunrise and our phenomenal partners like My Sister's Keeper ATX. We just don’t quit and that makes all the difference in the world for someone like Sarah and her daughter. We’ll always be in their corner.

Since 2021, Govind has been a steady presence in our mail room. Clients without an address face barriers to many services, including housing. Sunrise gives clients an address for secure mail service that removes this barrier. Although not every story Govind encounters is an easy one, he has enjoyed watching clients grow, take steps forward, and rebuild their lives. He'll tell you the best part isn't just the work itself, but the people he gets to do it alongside, including our staff.
