Natureversity is a nature-based learning school that offers courses covering naturalist studies, survival skills, traditional archery, and scouting for ages 5 to 17. We are dedicated to providing children, teens and families the opportunity to develop lasting relationships with themselves, their families, community and nature. We do this by offering programs that include both native and modern wa

ys of teaching that inspire children to feel comfortable and connected while in nature. With this unique teaching style we challenge students in ways that pushes them to become natural leaders, educators and stewards of the land. Many parents think games like tag, capture the flag, or other outdoor running games are just a way for kids to burn off energy.

But every time children play games like this, they’re making rapid decisions: Where do I run? Who’s chasing me? Do I change direction? Do I keep going?

Researchers often refer to these as executive function skills - the mental processes that help us plan, adapt, focus, and make decisions under pressure.

To a child, it feels like play but to their developing brain, it’s practice.

That’s one reason outdoor play is so valuable. The lessons often look like fun and they ARE fun.

A 2019 meta-analysis reviewed multiple studies and found that exposure to nature was associated with improved cognitive, behavioral, and emotional self-regulation in children.

Children who spend more time in nature tend to demonstrate stronger self-regulation skills, including attention control and emotional management.
