National Network of Abortion Funds

National Network of Abortion Funds The National Network of Abortion Funds is a network of orgs that are funding abortion& building power

WHAT WE'RE FIGHTING FOR
With the call to “Fund Abortion, Build Power!” in mind, we’re building an active grassroots base of people directly affected by barriers to abortion access to inform and implement necessary cultural and political change. Abortion funds are experts in their own communities across widely varying cultural and political geographies, and they hold unique perspectives as frontlin

e responders to people seeking abortion care support. Through a vision of collective power and participatory processes in partnership with our members, we are building organizing power that centers people who have abortions.

Wondering how you can support abortion access? Fund-A-Thon is the largest abortion fundraising season of the year. Across the United States, supporters turn out to raise money for their local abortion funds —who not only work to cover the cost of abortion, but often the travel, childcare, food, and lodging required to access care under abortion bans. Last year, local funds disbursed $63,491,939 while also fighting anti-abortion legislation and supporting callers from out-of-state. That work is impossible without you! Thank you for the bake sales, Twitch streams, garage sales, and more.

There’s still time to join the network of care built by local abortion funds by hosting a fundraiser or donating to keep this work going: https://nnaf.org/FThon26

Today, the Supreme Court decided to allow mifepristone, a key drug for medication abortion, to remain available through the mail or from a pharmacy while a lawsuit (Louisiana v FDA) against the drug plays out. We won today, but abortion funds are prepared for tomorrow. Abortion funds have seen us through every setback in abortion access, and with your help, they will continue to. In the words of our Interim Executive Director, Poonam Dreyfus-Pai, “On good days and hard days, abortion funds show up to support people as they navigate legal, political, cultural, and logistical barriers to abortion. Do not cheer for the Supreme Court. We must not let our guard down and celebrate the preservation of our most fundamental rights–we must remain vigilant in demanding more. Instead, let this moment serve as a reminder of the safety of mifepristone and the importance of abortion funds.” Read her full statement here: https://nnaf.org/12

Today, a federal appeals court ruled that abortion seekers can only get mifepristone in person at a health center. That means starting right now, abortion seekers cannot get mifepristone via telehealth, through the mail, or at a pharmacy.
This attack on mifepristone is not about safety, it’s about control. Mifepristone has been used safely by more than five million people in the U.S., with a safety record better than common drugs like Tylenol or Vi**ra. The FDA’s own data and over 100 peer-reviewed studies show that mifepristone is a safe and effective medication.

This is just another tactic by the Trump administration to make people jump through even more hoops to access abortions. Restricting telehealth access will have the highest impact in states where in-clinic abortions are already unavailable or extremely difficult to access.

Just like any abortion restriction or ban, the people most harmed by telehealth restrictions to mifepristone will be poor and working-class, uninsured, Black and brown, q***r and trans, and disabled community members.

People should always have control over the methods by which they have their abortions, whether they want procedural abortions, medication abortions, or to self-manage their abortions. People will always need and get abortions even when laws make it harder to do so.

We will keep fighting against barriers and stigmas around abortion and abortion access. All abortion bans are racist, classist, ableist, misogynistic, transphobic, oppressive, and unjust. Keep supporting your local abortion funds. Listen to their calls to action. Keep organizing for abortion access. F**k abortion bans!

As part of our latest political education series, we’re unpacking the obstacles young abortion-seekers face in receiving care. Youth are not just fighting against anti-abortion policies, they have to advocate for themselves before their parents, who may not include them in health decisions about their own bodies. And judges who have more authority around these decisions than young people themselves! How do we support young abortion-seekers and change our thinking around young people as autonomous beings? Share this post of insights and resources, and head to our blog for an even deeper dive on abortion access for youth: https://nnaf.org/11

As an abortion fund who assists with travel and lodging, we see the impact of racist and transphobic policies on people’s ability to access basic healthcare. Abortion access and reproductive care under violence and oppression is not a new situation on Turtle Island, nor is surveillance and state-funded harm. There’s a rich history of colonial violence with a throughline to present-day US domestic and global fascism.

The Texas-Mexico border has long been surveilled, exploited, and over-policed, but Frontera Fund has built practices that allow Texans to have an abundance of resilience. The media, racist extremists, and xenophobes will tell you lies about the border. But we won’t believe them, and we won’t stop taking care of each other. Follow these organizations doing immigrant justice, mutual aid, and real time support, and join us as we keep each other safe.

Abortion bans don’t just impact adults. Young people who seek out abortion care are in an even bigger bind due to the lack of agency they contend with as young people. Young abortion-seekers must battle an extreme lack of privacy, the control of parents who don’t see them as autonomous beings, and risk higher criminalization for themselves or those supporting them when getting their abortion. Join our mailing list to receive our musings on the youth reproductive health landscape, organizations supporting youth bodily autonomy, and resources for building youth power- all leading up to a panel discussion featuring experts in youth Reproductive Justice.

Across Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, and Washington, increased policing and surveillance—from immigration enforcement to the criminalization of pregnancy outcomes and data sharing—erode reproductive justice by severing access to care, safety, and community. But there is so much care, resilience, and even joy to be found in organizing and resisting. Build relationships with your neighbors, coworkers, and fellow organizers. Building community and strong organizing networks keeps us safe. And follow Asylum Solidarity PDX and visit tsuruforsolidarity.com to support asylum seekers and get involved.
