Shoal Creek Conservancy "Social"

Old Austin Neighborhood Association board members and neighborhood stakeholders joined Shoal Creek Conservancy founder Ted Siff and Conservancy Executive Director Ivey Kaiser and staff at the recently re-developed Duncan Park along, shoal Creek for a full day at SCC's annual fundraiser event. SCC is raising funds throughout the October 15th-31st campaign, hosting a family-friendly party on the creek.

From 10:30-11:30AM there was a guided history tour along beautiful Shoal Creek, highlighting the 1887 West Sixth Street Bridge and the Wood Street Settlement.

Today: "Inclusive Prosperity Downtown"

DAA hosted an incredible panel discussion during lunch at the Fairmont Hotel from national and local industry leaders who are working to create a more equitable entrepreneurial landscape in downtowns. Presentations included learning about programs designed to support small business creatives, and entrepreneurs from historically marginalized communities.

Our Keynote speaker: Shelonda Stokes, president of the Downtown Baltimore Partnership, will discuss the successful BOOST program, which has provided grant funding and support to BIPOC-owned businesses in downtown Baltimore.

Angela Hovis, President OANA and Charles Peveto, Vice-President attended the event.

Today at 12:00am, after many years of delays delays by Austin Parks & Recreation Department, the rehabilitation and enhancements at Duncan Park, has come to fruition, there will be a ribbon cutting to showcase improvements.

For years Duncan Park has been one of Austin's most underrated Downtown public spaces.

Duncan Neighborhood Park is located northwest of downtown along Shoal Creek Greenbelt, largely surrounded by residential and commercial spaces. For over 75 years, beautiful Duncan Park has served our historic neighborhood. Defined by its riparian habitat, nature trail, and dramatic views of an ever changing Downtown skyline, this ever anticipated "Duncan Park Improvement Plan", seeks to, with "enhanced" amenities, an infrastructure and programming upgrades to meet current and future needs of the community, certainly for our historic neighborhood, in which Old Austin Neighborhood Association (OANA)has sponsored a Nation Register Historic District, "West Downtown Austin Historic District".
