Travis County Announcement:

Grand Avenue Parkway Project Completed

I am happy to inform everyone that the Grand Avenue Parkway (GAP) is completed and ready to be opened up to traffic! We are scheduled to remove the barricades this Wednesday (3/3) and open the road. There will be a 4-way stop control for the intersection of Grand Avenue/ Bratton Lane until the traffic engineering department can conduct a study to see if the intersection meets warrants for a traffic signal. When the intersection meets the criteria for a traffic signal, the County will proceed with turning on the traffic signal already in place, but until then the 4-way stop controls will be in place.

A lot of people have been integral in getting this project to this point and we appreciate everyone’s support and patience! Commissioner Brigid Shea wants to thank the residents who were so helpful in moving this project forward and that we'd like to have a ribbon cutting at some point when it would work for people either virtually or in person.

Waste Management implemented its severe weather response plan on Friday, February 12 in response to the winter weather threat to the area. We are in continuous communication with local officials and have informed them of our plans as the winter storm makes its way to Central Texas. As of today, Thursday , February 18, 2021 all routes for the Austin and Marble Falls hauling districts will be suspended for Friday, February 19, 2021 and Saturday, February 20, 2021.

Beginning on Monday, February 22, 2021, Waste Management will resume our normal daily service schedule. We request that all customers place waste materials in the CARTS ONLY. We do not have the resources to have drivers get out of their trucks and fill up the serviced carts with additional trash that is on the ground. We understand that there will be significant amounts of trash during our service next week and that will most likely result in our drivers breaking off their routes early. This means that customers will get serviced on their scheduled day but they may be serviced later in their typical service day than they are accustomed to.

You may check the status of your service by logging into www.wm.com. You have two options; log into your existing account or log in as a “Guest.” Next you will be asked to enter your street address. Any updates to your service will be noted there. Thank you and please stay safe!

WM is the leading provider of comprehensive waste management, offering services such as garbage collection and disposal, recycling and dumpster rental.

Good morning!

Any missed recycle in Bratton Glen will be attempted to be recovered today (2/12).

Thanks and be safe!

Sharing an email with updated COVID-19 resources from Commissioner Shea:

As the number of COVID-19 cases continue to spike, I am urging everyone to do the simple things that we know work to slow the spread of COVID-19. Wear a mask, observe social distancing, practice good hygiene, and do not go out unnecessarily.

We also know that what helps keep us all safe is hurting our economy. Recognizing that many in our community are facing difficult economic burdens, Travis County has initiated several programs to help using federal CARES Act funding. Please see the list below of those and other programs that you or someone you know may find helpful.

If you have a small business under 25 employees, and that business is located within Travis County (but outside the City of Austin), you may be eligible for up to $40,000 in grant assistance for those hurt by the pandemic. Visit www.traviscountythrive.com or Contact BCL of Texas by email at [email protected] or by phone at 512-994-2280 to take the first step by completing the pre-eligibility questionnaire.

If you are struggling to pay rent or a mortgage anywhere in Travis County (including within the City of Austin), you may be eligible for rent or mortgage assistance for up to three months; that program starts on June 29th. For more information, please click here. (https://www.traviscountytx.gov/health-human-services/individuals-families/basic)

If you are struggling to pay utility bills, you may be eligible for utility assistance. For more information, please click here. (https://www.traviscountytx.gov/health-human-services/individuals-families/basic)

If you or family members are in need of hot meals, Keep Austin Together has a network of partner organizations that are dedicated to feeding our community; more information here (https://www.keepaustintogether.com/partner-organizations). Travis County also offers food pantry assistance for basic groceries, more information here. (https://www.traviscountytx.gov/health-human-services/community-centers)

If you are facing eviction because you are unable to pay rent, County Judge Sam Biscoe has issued an order banning evictions until July 25th, 2020. For more information, the full order is available here. (https://www.traviscountytx.gov/images/docs/covid-19-order-10.pdf)

If you are experiencing domestic violence, The SAFE Alliance can help. Learn more at safeaustin.org, or call them at 512-267-SAFE (7233) or text them at 737-888-7233.

If you are struggling with mental health or substance use, Integral Care can help. Learn more at integralcare.org, or call them at 512-472-HELP (4357).

If you think you may have contracted COVID-19, you can access free testing. Learn more from Austin Public Health (https://covid19.austintexas.gov) and CommUnityCare (https://communitycaretx.org/coronavirus-updates/coronavirus-updates.html)

If you have the virus and need to quarantine away from others in your household, Austin & Travis County have partnered to establish an Isolation Facility for free, safe lodging for residents who cannot safely self-isolate. Learn more here. https://www.traviscountytx.gov/images/news/isolation_facility.pdf )

Some of these programs may be discussed Saturday, June 27th, in a community forum hosted by the City of Austin. English forum is at 11 AM and Spanish forum at 1 PM. Tune in to the livestream at facebook.com/AustinPublicHealth, or call 1-844-992-4726 and enter access code 146 697 3290 to participate.

Please share this email with anyone who may need these resources. While we cannot solve all of the issues caused by this pandemic, Travis County is doing what we can to help.

I sincerely hope this message finds you and your family well. We will get through this, with each other’s help and the support of our entire community.

With hope,

Brigid Shea
Travis County Commissioner
Precinct Two

Hi neighbors! Wells Branch Neighborhood Association has shared some info about increased coyote activity in our area:

Wells Branch is Under Construction and the Critters are BACK! Expect an increase in all kinds of wild creatures (possums, raccoons, snakes, rats, coyotes) this spring as we have several new construction projects underway in and around Willow Run. Notice to Waste Management Customers as an update to the billing error that occurred on the January statements.

Per Waste Management Account Manager Gary Gauci, all the accounts have been credited. The issue for the residents is that since you are billed quarterly, nothing will reflect on your WM accounts until your next invoice, which is 60+ days out. All credits have posted internally per Waste Management controller.

Please direct your questions or concerns directly to Gary Gauci, Account Manager with Waste Management.

The following message is from our waste collection company.

I wanted to take a moment and touch base with you regarding the transition of trash and recycling providers for the residents of Bratton Glen. Late last year, Waste Management purchased the assets, routes and personnel of Republic Services in the Austin Marketplace. This wasn’t a merger or combining of companies. Waste Management and Republic Services continue to be two separate entities that operate nationwide. This was a targeted local acquisition only. The transition was to be finalized on December 1, 2018. Waste Management was unable to contact any residents or provide notification due to the fact that these customers were Republic Services customers. There are certain laws that prohibit this type of communication and Waste Management followed all legal and ethical means of contact. Republic Services did notify all cities, municipalities and HOA’s but only at a management level. Any communication to the citizens and residents was left up to the individual city, municipality or HOA to disburse.

During the transition phase, the accounting information from Republic Services to Waste Management was inaccurate. The quarterly rate for the residents of Bratton Glen was actually imported to the “monthly rate” field in the Waste Management accounting software. This has led to residents in Bratton Glen being charged up to 3X for their current quarterly bill. This number is clearly incorrect and the necessary actions are being taken internally within Waste Management to correct.

Residents of Bratton Glen are to be charged $20.08/month or $60.24/quarter. This amount plus 8.25% sales tax equals $65.21/quarter.

Please notify all concerned and affected residents that they should not be alarmed by the incorrect charges and simply pay the $65.21 for the current quarter. All erroneous charges are being credited and there should be no issues for any Bratton Glen residents. The credits are being processed and will be posted as soon as they are available. If any residents have any questions or concerns, they can reach me on my cell at 512 484-3819.

Thanks,
Gary Gauci

Hi neighbors! There's been some confusion about an invoice that was sent out from Waste Management. Waste Management took over Republic.

However, WM has made some errors on bills and billed the quarterly amount as monthly.

The Waste Management account manager Gary Gauci is working on resolving the issues.
