The Austin Traditional Jazz Society will present the Violet Crown Serenaders in concert on Sunday, April 19, from 2 to 4:45 pm. This great band specializes in the dance music of the 1920s. They are led by drummer, Dave Bedrich. The Serenaders are a favorite with Austin jazz fans and swing dancers.

Come and see the fun at Ben Hur Shrine Temple at 7811 Rockwood Lane, off Anderson Lane near MoPac. There is plenty of free parking at Ben Hur. The hall contains a large dance floor. Snacks, beer, wine and sodas are available. Patrons can bring their own food. ATJS concerts are family-friendly.

The concert is free to ATJS members. Guests can enter for $12 and college students with ID and members of the Austin Jazz Society are $5.

Give ‘Em Rhythm

A Celebration of Jazz in the Public Domain with Give ‘Em Rhythm, nine Austin musicians who play and sing the kind of jazz that started it all.
The concert takes place at Austin’s Ben Hur Shrine Temple, 7811 Rockwood Ln. on Sunday, March 15 from 2:00-4:45. This is a family-friendly event and there's plenty of parking. Snacks are available. There is plenty of free parking at Ben Hur. The hall contains a large dance floor. Snacks, beer, wine and sodas are available. Patrons can bring their own food. ATJS concerts are family-friendly.

Tickets at the door are $12 for individuals, and $5 for members of the Austin Jazz Society and college students with ID. We also invite folks to become dues paying members at https://atjs.org/join

The annual Austin Traditional Jazz Society Jazz Jam Session is on Sunday, February 1 from 2 to 4:45 pm at Ben Hur Shrine Temple at 7811 Rockwood Lane, Austin, TX, off Anderson Lane near MoPac.
A mainstay of the concert season, the jam session invites local musicians a chance to share the stage with fellow players. If you know traditional jazz or would like to try, this event is for you.
New attendees or musicians wishing to pre-register should e-mail: [email protected]. Otherwise, check in at the front desk when you arrive. Early registrants get priority, but every effort is made to slot all willing players.
The ATJS Jam Session is a free show, so bring friends and relatives. Ben Hur has drinks and snacks, plenty of free parking and a large dance floor. Season memberships can be purchased at the door or by visiting www.atjs.org.

The Lakebottom Jazz Band, based out of the Ragtime Oriole in Marble Falls, has earned a reputation for playing hot, vintage jazz. They’re especially known for performing improvised New Orleans classics, traditional 1920’s orchestrations, and swinging arrangements scored by the maestro and pianist himself, Richard Golladay.

The Relevators, a hot dance jazz band, will play for the Austin Traditional Jazz Society on Sunday, October 19 from 2 to 4:45 pm at Ben Hur Shrine Temple, 7811 Rockwood Lane in Austin. A longtime favorite on the Austin Traditional Jazz Society stage, the Relevators play hot jazz and early swing for listeners and swing dancers. This will be a memorable traditional jazz event.

Swing Shift of Austin opens the 2025-26 Austin Traditional Jazz Society season on Sunday, September 21 at Ben Hur Shrine Temple in Austin.
The band’s name refers to their music, where the focus “shifts” from the early stomp of the 1900s to big-band swing of the 1940s and everything in between. The lineup can shift from banjo to guitar and clarinet to sax to give a dynamic feel from song to song.
Ben Hur Shrine Temple, at 7811 Rockwood Lane, is off Anderson Lane near MoPac. There is plenty of free parking available. The hall contains a large dance floor. Snacks, beer, wine and sodas are available. Patrons can bring their own food. ATJS concerts are family friendly.

The Silver Creek Jazz Band will play for the final 2024-25 Austin Traditional Jazz Society concert on Sunday, June 8 from 2 to 5 pm at Ben Hur Shrine Temple, 7811 Rockwood Lane, Austin, TX. Silver Creek has been together since 2007. The band is led by valve trombonist Dave Stoddard, an East Coast transplant who has been in Austin since 2001.

He will be joined by cornetist Larmon Maddox, a distinguished lead player and soloist with many local jazz ensembles. Ben Saffer, another East Coaster, will play clarinet. Dan Augustine will play tuba. Dan got his start as a symphony orchestra player in Nevada but has done good things for Austin traditional jazz bands. Jimmy Vence is a Django Reinhardt devotee and a fine soloist on guitar. Luke West will join in on trumpet, as will Bobbie Black on banjo.The rhythm section is rounded out by Rob Schmidt, a big band drummer who also does a great job with small jazz ensembles.

Free admission to ATJS members; General admission at the door: $12; College Students with ID, and members of Austin Jazz Society: $5.00. Snacks, beer, wine and sodas are available. Patrons can bring their own food. ATJS concerts are family-friendly.

They are led by Colin Hancock, a talented player at home on many different instruments and Dave Bedrich on drums. The Serenaders are a favorite with Austin jazz fans and swing dancers.

On Sunday, December 1, from 2 - 4:45 pm, the Austin Traditional Jazz Society will present a concert by Swing Shift. This hot band has played for ATJS a number of times as La Grosse Tete. The focus has "shifted" from the early 1900s all the way to 1940s and everything in between. Hence the name change, Swing Shift. The band members are: Johnny Serrano - banjo, guitar and leader, Sean Newton - cornet, vocals, Don Denzin - saxes, clarinet, Dave Stoddard - valve trombone, Bill Troiano - sousaphone, Ryan Neubauer - washboard and stuff.
