Update as of Feb 4th:

Dave was released from the hospital on Monday (Feb3) and is doing well. He is happy to be home from the hospital to get some better rest. His voice is still recovering, and I know he looks forward to catching up with you when he is stronger in his recovery and has his voice back.

He goes back to the clinic on Thursday for labs. We know his recovery will take months, but we are so thankful that the last week has been going well. Please join us in praise and gratitude for the surgeries and recoveries so far.

Update as of February 1st at 7pm:
Today was another good recovery day. Yesterday was a liquid diet, today was a soft food diet. His levels are looking good too so the doctor is pleased. He went for two walks today and his pain level is lower. We are all hoping he will be discharged on Monday!

Our sweet donor is doing well at home and even returning to work soon (remotely)!

Update as of January 31st at 7pm:
Today was a good recovery day! Dave is sounding better and getting a little more rest. He was able to start a liquid diet today (previously just ice chips)! His levels are looking good as well. Thank you Lord for answering these prayers.

Friendly reminder, since Dave is now on immune suppression medicines (to help his body accept and not reject the new kidney), his social interactions will be extremely limited during his recovery. We need to make sure we keep Dave as healthy as possible so that this new kidney will last as long as possible. I know he looks forward to seeing his family and friends in the future, when the time is right. Love and thanks! - ML

Update as of January 29th at 10pm:
The kidney donor continues to progress well in his recovery and we hope he will be discharged soon. For Dave, he is doing well and MC and ML have been taking shifts (MC is on night shift again tonight). Dave had low blood pressure Tuesday night (1/28) post surgery likely from now having a healthy kidney and also pain medicine can drop the blood pressure so the nurses had to balance that. His blood pressure was good today (1/29) along with other vitals. He got up and walked for a minute and did really well despite his incision being painful. He might have set a world record by losing 30+ lbs Tuesday afternoon. We are hoping he can have water and food soon (currently only having ice chips and IV).

Please continue to keep the donor and Dave in your thoughts and prayers as they recover. Love and thanks! - ML

Update as of Tuesday January 28th at 10pm:

The kidney donor’s surgery went well early this morning and our sweet donor is recovering well. The kidney was transported to Austin just fine and Dave’s surgery went well (kidney surgeon was pleased with how it went). His blood pressure is low (previously was always high with PKD) but the nurses are monitoring him often. Mary Clair is staying the night with David.

Praise God that all the logistics and surgeries today went well! Please join us in praying for smooth recoveries for Dave and his kidney donor!

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers to date. We feel our prayers leading up to today have been answered. We are in awe of all that went well today. Praise be to God!!

Dear friends and family - tomorrow (Tuesday January 28th) is kidney transplant day! The surgery is planned to start at 12pm and take about 8 hours. We are so thankful for this gift of life being given to Dave Tuttle.

He is so excited for this special gift especially since his two granddaughters will be born over the next few weeks and months!

If you all could please join us in praying for a successful operation and recovery for both Dave and the living donor, we would be so grateful.

The post-transplant medications used to avoid organ rejection will suppress Dave’s immune system. It will be better to talk over the phone, text, email, or Facetime instead of face-to-face visits for the near term. We love you all!

Happy National Donor Day (Feb14)!! Will you help me find a kidney for Dave Tuttle? Many of my friends here are not aware, but my Dad and I have Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) and have kicked off his search for a living kidney donor. I have always looked up to my dad and so proud of all the difference he has made on this earth for my family, colleagues and the Austin community. He’s the best of the best and I hope and pray we are able to find him a living kidney donor in 2024!

If you could do one thing to help us, could you please like our page to help it gain traction? We are not social media gurus but our hope is to spread the word enough to reach someone who is interested or been called towards being a living donor. We hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day with your loved ones! ❤️

David, Husband, father and grandfather is a loyal and true patriarch of his loving family. Married to MaryClair for forty years they have raised a son, Robert (married to Cameron) and a daughter, MaryLiz (married to Clay). We have been blessed to have our first grandchild, Price (16 months), adding to the family. It has been a joy to see David’s wonderful nephew (Michael) and niece (Jenny) grow into such great adults, marry their spouses Rachel and Erik, and have their own precious children Owen, Summer, Ellis, and Leo.

David’s work has been very important to him over the years. He started with IBM and always contributed over 110%. He successfully designed microprocessors, managed projects, and helped to create many innovations. Currently, he is working at the UT Energy Institute as a researcher and lecturer with an interest in transportation, the electricity grid, and energy technology and policy. David always strives to make the world a better place, especially through science and innovation.

First diagnosed with kidney disease in his 40’s, he has watched his energy decrease over time. His doctors have now given him the green light for a kidney transplant recently and our family is trying to find a match for him. However, it is like trying to find a needle in a haystack!

Not everyone is a compatible match and there are not enough donors to meet the need. Our family wants to do everything we possibly can to give David the chance to continue his journey here with us on this earth! If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a living kidney donor, please let us know! [email protected]
