Healing begins with understanding. ❤️

We are deeply committed to being a trauma-informed organization. That commitment includes recognizing and understanding the impact of historical and generational trauma experienced by the youth and families we serve.

Last week, our American Indian Education Coordinator, LaKeisha Lovejoy, led a powerful Cultural Sensitivity presentation for staff. She shared the history of Native American boarding schools and the lasting effects of children being separated from their families, communities, and cultures. Staff also learned about Minnesota's Tribal Nations and the significance of the Four Sacred Medicines: Sage, Sweetgrass, Cedar, and To***co.

When Native American youth come to us, we make these sacred medicines available to those who wish to have them and do not have access to their own. Honoring cultural traditions and spiritual practices is an important part of creating a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for healing.

By continuing to learn and grow in our understanding of Native cultures, histories, and traditions, we can better support the Native American youth in our care and help foster stronger connections to identity, culture, and healing.

What an incredible experience for our youth!

A huge thank you to the Minnesota Vikings for inviting our youth to attend the joint training camp with the Baltimore Ravens. From mini games, football challenges, flag football, and inflatable activities to free popsicles and collecting player trading cards, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The highlight of the day was watching two NFL teams practice together and seeing the energy and excitement on the field. Our youth also had the opportunity to meet players from both teams, collect autographs, and even meet Coach Kevin O’Connell and long snapper Andrew DePaola.

To top it all off, each child received a Vikings backpack and football, along with plenty of other fun swag to take home. Most importantly, they made memories, tried new activities, and had an unforgettable day.

We are so grateful to the Minnesota Vikings for creating opportunities like this and helping make such a special experience possible for the youth we serve.

More than 20 years ago, Brooke came to Nexus Family Healing's Gerard Campus as a youth searching for hope, belonging, and a path forward. Years later, when her own child needed support, she found herself returning to the same program, this time as a parent.

Read Brooke and William's powerful full-circle story of healing, resilience, and the life-changing impact of believing in someone when they need it most.

Nexus Family Healing has helped Brooke more than once. First, she received the mental health care she needed as a teenager, and then when her child needed help, we were there for her family once again.

Today was a very special day at Nexus Family Healing’s Gerard Campus as we celebrated Neeshka’s graduation from our on-campus school, New Dominion School!
Each year, we are proud to celebrate students who earn their high school diplomas, and graduation days on our campus are truly meaningful. The day and ceremony are centered around one student, honoring their hard work, resilience, and accomplishments.
Neeshka had the opportunity to invite people who supported her along the way to speak on her behalf, and this year’s ceremony was made even more special because of her involvement in our Native Youth Coalition. We were honored to welcome a knowledge keeper, Shashana Skippingday, from the White Earth Reservation to share cultural traditions and deliver a special message to Neeshka on her graduation day.
Please join us in congratulating Neeshka on this incredible milestone!
