Meet Callie, our new Deputy Director at Foster Angels!

Callie spent 12 years in child welfare leading communications at CASA of Travis County, where she helped build what became recognized as the top communications program among nearly 1,000 CASA organizations nationwide. Most recently, she’s worked in people management, internal communications, and HR in tech and digital marketing, and has served as a crisis communications consultant and leadership trainer.

When she’s not supporting and amplifying our mission, you can find her cooking up something delicious or dancing her heart out in tango and salsa aerobics classes at Esquina Tango.

Earlier this week, the Expedia Group team spent their Monday with us as part of their Global Month of Caring, and we are so grateful they chose Foster Angels! 💛

Together, they assembled 60 toiletry kits and 150 snack kits for caseworkers across Central Texas. Every kit means a caseworker has something ready to share the moment a foster youth needs it.

September is Kinship Care Awareness Month!

More than 8,000 children in Texas, over 41% of all kids in the state's care, are living with a grandparent, aunt, uncle, or close family member. That is called kinship care, and it is the most common form of foster placement in our state.

But the system does not treat them equally. An unlicensed kinship caregiver receives about half of what a licensed foster parent gets for the same child. Same child. A fraction of the support.

At Foster Angels, we exist to help meet those critical needs. This month, we are honoring every grandparent, aunt, uncle, and family member who opened their home and their heart to keep a child close to family.

🏈 EVERY KID DESERVES A TEAM.

Tomorrow, Austin turns burnt orange as college football returns. And whether you're the type to paint your face or just love the energy of game day, there's something in the air this time of year — the feeling of being part of something.

That's exactly what we want for every kid in foster care.
Take 13-year-old Jordan, for example. He's ready for his first football season of 7th grade. All he needed was a little help getting the cleats and gloves to make it happen, and Foster Angels made sure he got those before his first practice.

Jordan's story isn't unique. Last month alone, FACT helped local kids step onto fields, into pools, and into gyms — supporting everything from football and swim lessons to cheer and gymnastics.

This season, let's make sure every kid gets to play.

In Texas, less than half of young adults who've aged out of foster care are employed by 21, and a third face homelessness.
At the same time, skilled trades are booming, with registered apprenticeships up 164% since 2016.

That gap is exactly why FACT is launching the Vocational & Trade Track, a new part of the FACT Scholars Program built for youth pursuing
hands-on careers in skilled trades, healthcare, cosmetology, manufacturing, and more.

FACT has supported youth in trade programs for many years. For example, Derek, who was attending TSTC in Waco, but he couldn't afford the equipment required for the welding program. We quickly sent him funding for the gear, and now he is in his second year of a great job.

This new track goes even further, helping more Scholars reach a certificate that leads to real employment and stability.
Scholars can receive up to $12,000 annually. Applications are open now.

For former foster youth, a trade skill isn't just a job; it's a stable career that can change everything. Learn more about how we are making it possible.

Kinship care is one of the most common forms of foster care placement in Texas. These caregivers keep children connected to their families, their culture, and the people who love them.

Last night we gathered some incredible people around a shared vision: making sure former foster youth at UT Austin have everything they need to thrive on the Forty Acres.

Thank you to our co-chairs, Angie and Lesley, for hosting the launch event for the Longhorn Circle of Care, our newest volunteer initiative supporting students with foster care experience through the UT SPARK program. We shared the vision, met fellow supporters, and took the first steps toward building something truly special for Longhorn foster alumni.
