Had a good meeting with a long-time member and a guest. Donna is retiring. She departed with a few words of wisdom for those newer Toastmasters. And, yeah, there was cake too!

Ka opened the meeting and introduced our role players. Alan served as the WAG while Jing served as the timer.

Ryan gave the last speech to complete his third Path.

In an interesting juxtaposition, Lynn began his first path with his Icebreaker.

Cliff led the Table Topics with topics leading members to discuss the benefits of terrible situations.

Ka provided Ryan with some feedback while Donna provided Lynn with some constructive comments.

Best Speaker went to Lynn. Ryan won Best Table Topics, while Ka took home the ribbon for Best Evaluator.

Today we held the first of six sessions of Speechcraft here at DPS. Ryan and Lindsey led the session. Some folks who registered couldn’t make this session, but we’ll see them next week.

The participants had a chance to interview and introduce each other to the rest of the group. They had a chance to hear about the benefits of public speaking. Each participant had the opportunity to try out Table Topics, and ended the session with a bit of homework.

Next time we’ll get to hear a few Icebreaker speeches!

Ka opened the meeting and talked about the theme, “Summer Travel”. He described how he likes to attend gaming conferences.

Donna introduced the word of the day, “Adventure” which ties with the theme.

Sheryl gave us a speech from the Innovative Planning path. In this speech “I Only Had Two Beers (Part II)”. She described the effect of alcohol on people. Her goal was to incorporate feedback from her previous speech in this speech.

John led the Table Topics on the theme of the day.

Cliff talked about his adventures as a mixologist with rum. We learned that Bacardi popularized rum by filtering an otherwise filthy drink. We also learned that he prefers dryer adult beverages.

Ka told us about the roadside attraction he’d create for Austin. It turned out to be a brainstorm which ended up with a decision to create a giant brisket.

Donna told us about an adventure with her granddaughter at Universal Studios one summer.

Cliff led the evaluation section and introduced Donna. Donna then evaluated Sheryl’s speech.
It covered what she did well, like explaining technical terms.

Ka wrapped up the meeting with time to spare.

If you know somebody who would benefit from Toastmasters but isn't ready to join, consider inviting them to Speechcraft.
